Hama universal case
Member Name: Huomenna
Advantages: decent looking, holds several types of things
Disadvantages: quite bulky, not good for quick access
What is it?
This hama case is designed to hold a number of camera related accessories - primarily memory cards, but it also contains 'loops' which can be used to hold AA batteries, USB sticks etc.
What does it look like?
The case is made from koskin which is an artificial leather, it has stitching around the edges, the word 'hama' embossed on the front and a zip all the way around. Inside it has net pockets and several loops to keep the contents in place. On the packaging it's classed as a universal card case and for such a purpose it is quite big - dimensions are roughly 17x11x3.5cm. It is only available in black.
How much can it fit?
Of course this depends on what exactly you fit in it! The top loop nicely fits a single USB stick and the further 4 loops are the right size for AA batteries (or similar sized items). There are 3 netted 'pockets' inside which are for the memory cards - in total these can comfortably fit 5 compact flash cards (7 if you don't mind double stacking a bit) or about 10 SD cards. Theoretically you could also use the space in the middle for something like a lens cloth.
The net pockets are quite tight which is great from a perspective of items not coming loose in transit, but it does make it a bit fiddly putting cards in and taking them out, so if speed is of the essence then this case wouldn't really be appropriate. The ability of the case to hold more than one type of item is a good thing though as it means you can keep a variety of related accessories together.
How much do I have to spend?
Up to around £9 on the highstreet, less online - probably £4 or so.
Is it worth buying?
It really depends on the individual, but for me the answer is no - I shoot alot of weddings and this isn't appropriate for those circumstances as it is too bulky and access to cards isn't quick enough. For someone where space isn't an issue or if doing something at a slower pace (possibly something like landscape photography) then this case could suit your photography accessory storage needs.
Summary: Could be a useful case depending on your photographic needs
