When I got my S3100 Nikon Coolpix camera, my husband was insistent that I got a quality case to keep it in as it was my birthday present from him. The shop offered this camera case, a Nikon branded case, as the perfect solution. Although it's not specifically made for my particular model of camera, it fitted the camera in perfectly. We purchased it at an independent camera shop, but it is available at the moment on Amazon for £12.
The case is made of soft leather, although soft it is quite structured so the case doesn't collapse when the camera is pulled out to use. The shape of the case stays in place with it measuring around 10cm x 6.5cm x 2.5cm. The leather makes up the whole case, including the sides so it isn't the type that can expand if the camera is slightly too large. As I say, I find it fits my S3100 perfectly (it's a snug fit but I don't have trouble getting the camera in and out of the case) although it's actually designed for use with the coolpix S50, S50c, S51, S51c, S52, S52c, S560, S60, S600, S610, S610c, S70, S700 and S710 range of cameras. I ended up buying it because I could try it in the shop with my camera at the time but usually I would have followed the guidelines by the manufacturer.
This case has a magnetic fastening, instead of a zip fastening. There is a section of leather material, more rigid than the rest of the case, that folds over the case to shut it. That is then fastened down by the magnetic fastening which is strong and keeps the case firmly shut until it needs to be opened. There's also an attractive, small metal badge on the front of this section that says 'Nikon Coolpix' on it and is finished with lovely detail including small stitching around the whole case making it look a very high quality product. The case is black and the stitching is in a contrasting light grey colour.
It's a very compact size and is easy to carry around too - it comes with a small loop to be fastened to a belt and it also has a small hole (also nicely stitched) were the camera strap feeds through at the top. That's how I usually carry my camera around and it's always felt very safe and provided super protection, including to the large screen which was my main reason for wanting a case. The size makes it's perfect size to hold in my hand while the strap is around my wrist.
I have nothing but good to say about this case - I'm glad my husband treated me to a nice case to match my camera, as I probably would have just bought a cheap one so it had something to protect the screen. Having used it for a couple of years, my camera has remained in tip top condition. I feel this provides my camera with excellent protection and is also compact, high quality and nice looking so I don't mind walking around with it when I'm away from home. I feel it deserves the full 5 dooyoo stars from me.
