Canon EF-S ... in the EF-S series. A dynamic, compact, fast focusing lens providing dramatic detail that goes beyond the human eye.

With its ability to focus life-size images onto the image sensor, the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM offers true macro performance in the EF-S lens series. Having an effective focal length of approximately 96mm in 35mm format, it produces breathtaking close-up results. A minimum focusing distance of just 20cm gets you super close to your subject, filling your frame only with the subject detail you require.

The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM works in harmony with EF-S mount EOS cameras to let you explore an exciting new photographic dimension. Nature photographers will delight in the ability to capture the intricate beauty of tiny features. With capacity to reproduce an image on the sensor that is as large as the subject itself, you take your audience inside a magnificent miniature world.

Portrait photographers will enjoy working with the large aperture, which narrows depth of field and creates beautiful background blur, making your subject stand out with dramatic effect.

The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM adds enormous versatility to your kit while adding little weight. Its near-silent Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) provides super-fast precision auto-focusing with full-time manual override.

Over 60 years of optical engineering heritage have gone into producing a lens that delivers exacting picture quality standards. Canon lens technologies combine to produce high corner-to-corner resolution, brightness, contrast and balanced color reproduction, throughout all focusing distances.

Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements with Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off a digital camera sensor. An exclusive optional lens hood further reduces the incidence of flare.

One other thing I really like about this lens is that it's a true macro lens. Unlike a lot of the other lenses on the market which call themselves macro, this one does have a 1:1 ratio; that is, the bug that you're photographing will be the same size as the bug that comes out in your photo. :) Unfortunately, that does mean you have to be standing within a metre of wh...more

Premium Review Canon EF-S: a review (315 words)

Rating:

I bought this lens to use because when I first bought my Canon 400D, I didn't buy the kit lens to go with it (which in retrospect was a silly decision). It's quite pricey but well worth the cost, especially if you are a heavy portrait or macro shooter. Since it is a prime lens, the photographs it takes are beautifully sharp and crisp and the colours are very accurate. At large apertures the bokeh is really beautiful and soft, with no vignetting or fringing. However, I haven't tried it at the other end of the aperture yet. I would really recommend getting a tripod if you don't have one, however. It's a very fast lens and will mount onto any Canon ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review The key to another World (1253 words)

The Canon EF-S 60mm is a great lens. I’ve had it for about a week now and I’m very glad I parted with my cash for this beauty. Paying almost 300GBP I think is quite cheap for what is an exceptional lens. When I held the box in my hand and opened it up I had my breath held. Why? I convinced myself it would be broken in some way. The packaging consists of thin cardboard branded with product etc and inside there is just a bit of foam keeping it upright and a little bit of bubble wrap. Of course the lens didn’t have a scratch on it but Canon must really have a lot of faith in the build quality of this lens. Speaking of which, it is built well and feels rather ...  Read the complete review
