Overall, this is a fantastic all-round lens particularly for portraits

This is the second lens that i've ever bought which i use on my Nikon D80. I bought this lens purely because of the appealing wide aperture of f1.4. Although i hardly use this lens at f1.4 it's just nice to be able to open the aperture that wide if needed. The advntage of having a wide aperture is the brilliant bokeh effect it gives; It creates fantastic depth-of-field, creating wonderful, soft photographs. I also found this lens works much better with the auto-focus feature (compared to my 18-200mm lens) which can be handy at times. This lens is also ideal for low-light situations as well as being very compact and light to carry so you can just pop it in your bag without the added weight.

Another thing i liked about this lens is that it is not dedicated to just a DX or FX format DSLR meaning it can be used with a full-frame camera without losing the full benefits of the lens.

The only negative thing i've found with this lens so far is when you start going to wider apertures such as f1.4 to f1.8, you begin to see a glow around your subject when zoomed in, but in most situations i rarely go below f1.8.

Overall, this is a relatively cheap lens and i would definitely recommend purchasing this lens especially if Portraits is your subject of interest or for working in low-lit scenarios.
