I am using this lens with the Samsung NX1000, And Have no experience with other camera system with this lens. So please bear that in mind while reading this review.
Ok so the lens keeps the size of your system down with it's "Pancake" form factor, and works well to not add weight to your camera either. The lens itself looks nice, and will certainly not look out of place on the Samsung NX1000.
Something that struck me about this lens is how easy it was to attach, and get going. With barely more than a push and twist you will be up and ready to shoot your super sharp city shots. I noticed the change right away, images were looking much more crisp and almost eliminated grain completely in lower light shots. Leaving me with the photo's I need, and not the lengthy task of editing. I found that this lens works best in medium light, and struggles with only very dark places, but even then you would have to be really searching for the grain.
Once you are up and running, Like I said, You will be in a new world of high quality images. The Samsung NX1000 took "nice" photos before... Now they are incredible. For around £190 ( Mine cost me £220, bad deal ) you can not beat this kind of added clarity. I have seen similar function lenses way over the £1000 mark that can not even compete with this little beast. I honestly can not more emphasis on the fact that this is amazing value for money. Considering the camera unit itself is now around the low £400 mark, you can have an incredible DSLR rivaling compact that no-one would even be able to tell the difference between.
I did some tests between the Samsung NX1000 with this lens against my partners canon powershot sx40 hs. And while the SX40 captures at around half the resolution, I found it to still be a fair test in these conditions and what we were using them for.
First up we took both cameras into town in the early evening, we found that taking pictures with the SX40 was much nicer, and even without an extra lens, produced very crisp low light images. That being said the NX1000 with this lens also took some very nice images, But just could not compete with the epic detail captured with the SX40.
For the second ( and last ) part of the test, we loaded the images into Photoshop and ran a few tests. We found that the NX1000 had a much clearer color signature and a lot less "mess" while the SX40 has quite a lot of color bleed ( Not something we saw at all with daylight shots )
Overall this lens is the perfect addition to the NX1000, and in my opinion one of the best accessory lenses money can buy. I can guarantee that if you buy this lens, you will not be disappointed.
Ultra-compact, ultra-light, and ultra-powerful: the Samsung 16 mm lens preserves the slim profile of the NX series. In fact, its slim size makes it the perfect general-purpose lens for photo buffs who need flexibility and portability. Whether you're walking around downtown or out in the country, you can capture incredibly beautiful cityscapes or landscapes in a variety of conditions.
It's stylish and compact, but more than that, the Samsung 16 mm pancake lens is one fast lens. Actually, it's the fastest of any ultra-wide compact system camera lens, thanks, in part, to its F/2.4 aperture. And its fast shutter speed lets you capture sharper images in low-light settings - even without a tripod. Ideal for wide landscapes, it also lets you create dramatic background blur effects for images that truly stand out.
