This is a great lens and will suite most amateur photographers needs. The detail and sharpness even at full zoom is fantastic even when hand held. The lens itself is light but feels very ruggedly built and is constructed of high quality glass which you would normally only find in more expensive lenses. Tamron have produced a lens that is not going to break the bank to buy and is not going to give you aches and pains carrying it around all day. I took some shots of a jackdaw in the distance and the sharpness of the image it captured was far more than i was expecting. This is an incredible lens. I bought it in a bundle with my Canon EOS 450D. It's first outing was to the Lake District and I must say, it did very well. I was very surprised to see how far it zoomed in and how clear the photos were. I zoomed in to a waterfall on a hill the other side of a lake and the detail it picked up was impressive. For macro shots it performs equally as well, giving explicit detail if held steady. The only thing I would say is that it is definitely better when on a tripod rather than just holding it, because if you are anything like me then you will get camera shake.
