Advantages: Ease of use & Quality

Disadvantages: cost

The Bronica ETRS an excellent camera with the only downside being that extra lenses are expensive due to the fact that each lens has an electronic leaf shutter built in.

I bought my first Bronica ETRS in 1988 after being recommended by a colleague. The camera is medium format 4.5cm X 6cm producing 15 pinsharp negatives. I have printed 5 X 4 ft prints from the negatives with excellent results!

I found the camera to be quite robust having been dropped by a junior colleague the only damage being a bent filter ring this was straightened out. I sold the camera in 1991 thinking that I would never use medium format again, how wrong could I be. In 1995 I bought another Bronica this time an ETRSi. The ETRSi is almost the same as the ETRS the main difference being that the ETRSi has the facility to use TTL flash metering (something I haven’t used). Most of the later cameras also come with an uprated standard 75mm lens designated PE.

I believe that most accessories for the ETRS work fine on the ETRSi. I bought a used AE Prism for it (originally designed for the ETRS) that works fine in both AE(aperture exposure automatic) and manual settings. There are quite a number of accessories available for the camera: various viewfinder options, winders, filmbacks (120, 220, 35mm, and Polaroid) and lenses.
