The manual over-ride control dial allows you to set the camera's automatic ISO setting and at the same time setting the correct film speed. The EOS300 gives you a wide range of choices from full manual to fully automatic, allowing you to dial to what type of photograph you are taking (portrait, landscape, Macro, sports, night-time)...more

Crowned Review Canon EOS 300: Snap Happy and Arty Farty (687 words)
by - written on 11/11/02 (Very useful, 2133 readings)

I upgraded to the Canon EOS300 (known as the Rebel 2000 in the US) from an earlier Canon model (EOS5000) because I was ready to learn more about photgraphy and needed a camera which allowed total manual control. I already had a few Canon fit lenses, so another Canon was the obvious choice. At the time, the EOS300 was the best selling camera in it's class, so I was happy to go with that. I've never regretted that decision. This camera is small and exceptionally light (355g without a lens attached). This can be a problem for men (or women) with particularly large hands, who find it fiddly to use, but I have no problem in that department. I regularly carry ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Canon EOS 300 - First Impressions (293 words)

Two weeks ago I purchased myself a Canon EOS 300 - an upgrade from my existing point and shoot fixed focus camera. I have only limited photographic knowledge but, as I travel frequently with my work, I thought I should invest in a decent camera to record my experiences. I have since used three rolls of film and have only binned 2 pictures - both a result of me 'playing' with the fully manual mode on the camera. The remaining pictures are pin sharp and of a quality that I never thought I could produce. The EOS 300 features 11 different shooting modes - 6 of these being point and shoot modes. One of these modes is full auto with the remaining 5 ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Canon EOS 300: feather light touch (191 words)
by - written on 25/07/00 (Very useful, 1168 readings)
Rating:

Having got through a few low-end SLRs in the last few years, at last I find one that is a joy to use with consistently good results. The good points: - light as a feather - spend the day with it round you neck without feeling it. - focussing, quick and accurate and virtually silent. Spend the extra few quid on an 'Ultrasonic' lens - sometimes it is difficult to know that the lens is in auto rather manual focus mode, so light is the touch. (the camera can be set to beep for some feedback when focussing has occured). - zoned focussing - LED feedback about which elements of the field are in focus - marvelous. This can also be controlled or even ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Worth every penny (144 words)
by - written on 16/04/01 (Useful, 1297 readings)
Rating:

This camera is my first "proper" camera, as I used to use only point & shoot cameras. I purchased it about a week ago, and so far I found worth every penny I paid for it. If you're like me only used to p&s the Canon Eos 300 is a great slr to start off with. It has got a full Auto mode, which works basically just like any other p&s camera, but because you have to adjust the zoom manually, i.e. turn the lens yourself, it does look quite professional(if that's important to you). It also does things like multiple exposure, which is great for creating ghost images on your pictures. And the results you get from it are just incredible. Yes, I you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Canon EOS 300: My First Digital SLR WOW (250 words)

The EOS 300D/Rebel, what a great bit of kit, I sold my old Bronica medium format setup to buy this camera. Not disappointed in the slightest apart from the flash positioning, when taking close-up photos. It only took around a day to familiarise myself with EOS 300, which is all credit to the Canon quick guide and simple to use menu. The EOS 300 is very light considering it is a full size SLR camera, even with a 200 mm lens, but robust (after dropping mine twice). The auto-focus system is accurate and easy to use, helping you to achieve the depth of field, maybe a few too many beeps!
