Advantages: Affordable, easy to operate, add an extra dimension to your wedding snaps.
Disadvantages: Not for the easily offended, not professional quality images!
At my cousins wedding last year we had these Confetti Heaven Ivory Disposable Wedding Camera's. The idea of having disposable camera's for the guests to use is that they simply left a couple of the camera's on each table at both the wedding meal and during the evening celebrations and buffet. Guests can then take snaps of the happy day, whether it be of the happy couple of themselves enjoying themselves. Then, the disposable camera's are left on the tables and afterwards they are all developed.
The beauty of this is that my cousin only needed to hire a photographer for the church and not the full day, saving many, many hundreds of pounds in the process. Also, the spontaneity of the pictures ensure a lot of action will be caught, and there will be no escaping from the lens by anyone! I have found that a set of 10 of these camera's are available on Amazon.co.uk for £31.99 - my cousin said he paid around £80 for 30 of these camera's, so he got a good deal. Confetti Heaven Ltd sell these camera's through Amazon.co.uk, they sell all sorts of wedding related items, such as confetti and balloons.
The camera's could be bought in bulk and as they are a plain ivory colour they fit in with the whole occasion. The camera's come equipped with a built-in flash and a high quality colour film. Each camera comes with its own matching table card. The information on the camera, along with the card, gives instructions as to the reasoning behind the camera's and obviously informs the guests to leave the camera's on the tables at the end of the evening.
Once the photographs had been developed I took a look at them and were impressed with the quality. I very rarely see real photographs anymore, as most images i now see are of the digital kind. The disadvantage of film is that the images are not easily transferable into digital form, but the wedding photos themselves were professional pictures, so these could then be put onto social networking sites for friends and family to see. With the subject matter of some of the images, perhaps it was for the best that these couldn't be plastered all over the internet!
The camera's themselves were very easy to operate, and although some guests did have trouble operating them this would be expected with most things. A simple button to capture the image and a manual winding facility mean that they are very basic indeed, but they are also extremely affordable aswell. The camera's are made of plastic, with an ivory cardboard cover, they look smart enough to fit in with their surroundings.
I would definitely recommend the use of disposable camera's at a wedding reception, and as I found this product so simple to use I must give it 4 out of 5. Although the picture quality was generally very good, there were one or 2 images that didn't develop very well out of each film roll. These disposable camera's have their limitations, and because of that I would suggest you don't cancel the photographer just yet.
Summary: Worthwhile to have on your wedding reception tables.
