Advantages: Easy to load, the other alleged advatages are quite the opposite

Disadvantages: All the above and many more

Wow! I thought as I looked at the odd suare cartridge and dreamlike self wind, a weaker person wouldn't have noticed they were actually being had...I was given an Advantex camera the Christmas after they first hit the British market, I agreed that this would be a good christmas present/18th birthday present as I didn't have an automatic camera which are always handier for taking photos when your out with friends. 3 types of photo panormic, classic or high density (basically big, no winding problems, index print every time, easy to load, easy to order reprints...woah, woah, woah!
Did I have any control over what my photos would look like? Well, there's long, thin and ugly with everybodies heads chopped off, regular size or slightly bigger than regular size, apart from that nothing. What people like and expect from automatics, but they don't realise the art involved in manual cameras, the much better photos they can have than, 'well, if you look closely you can see a blurred uncle Albert with no nose as the light meter decided to open as wide as possible and the flash witened his face'
But this set a side, Advantex is even worse. You can get the film in two speeds, 200 and 400, none of which are suited too many uses but give you mediocre results everytime. The quality is poorer than 35mm which I expect is to to with the fact that you can play around with the size of the photo. There is also know way that a developer can develope your photos as well as possible as they have no control over the process, not that many do these days, and you can forget about developing it yourself.
If you want a camera to take pictures of your mates when your having a laugh then save yourself the minimum £35 and buy a disposable, if you want good photos get a manual camera, your grandad wil have one somewhere you can borrow or have probably and will be better than all the trashy automatic cameras which you have been contitioned to accept as better.
Advatex is just a flawed gimmick, a new cash machine for kodak. If you decide not to go for a manual then don't worry, you can always choose whether you want your photos developed onto a mug or onto a jigsaw puzzle.

My experience with Advantix has been quite good. You do need to understand the photo formats and select appropriately. The only down site of these cameras are the film and film processing come in at a higher cost. However, for a neat, carry anywhere camera, they are pretty good.
