Advantages: cool vintage shots, colour, unique, fun
Disadvantages: film camera processing, expensive
I have many cameras; digital cameras, point and shoot ones, DSLRs, SLRs, vintage ones, toy ones - you name it, I have them (or am saving up to buy it!). The Lomography LCA is the camera which is most dear to me. I saw some photographs taken by a friend using the original LCA and I fell in love with the vintage feel and warm colour of the pictures. I knew I must try it!
The LCA+ is a copy of the legendary Russian Lomo Kompakt Automat! The LCA is a cult camera, and demand is high, so if buying an original expect to pay £60+ and even then, when buying online (for example ebay), it is hard to know if the camera will be in working order. That is why I am happy that the LCA+ was invented! A brand new spanking version, with no hidden nasties!
The LCA+ has many new features: A Multi exposure switch (for taking more than one photo on one frame), enhanced ASA settings (nice!) and a cable release enabled button (for long time exposures). It has the famous Minitar 1 lens which gives you radiantly coloured and shadowy vignetted shots like the original.
The best aspect of this camera would be the colourful shots. Lomo loves colour. These photos were taking from the original Lomo LCA by me http://www.flickr.com/photos/hannahfelicity/sets/7 2157600196878340/
and these were taking by the new LCA+ (from the official lomo website) http://www.lomography.com/lca+/galleries/products- galleries/lca-gallery
The standard package is not cheap, this hard wearing plastic camera will set you back around £234.50: - LC-A+ Standard Package:
- Lomo LC-A+ camera
- Cable Release, "Lomographiere" hardcover book
- Two 35mm film rolls
- 1.5V batteries
It is not digital, it takes 35mm film rolls, this is another aspect you have to take into consideration (film processing is not cheap!). The 1.5V batteries are very cheap and last a long time.
I bought my original from ebay for £60 not knowing if it was going to work or not, this was a very dangerous move, but it paid off for me and it works like a dream. I do reccommend paying the extra money for the new version so you know exactly what you are paying for.
I have never had so much fun with any other camera.. I am so in love with this camera, I cherish every shot!
Summary: A little plastic camera with the wow factor!
