Advantages: easy to use, not too expensive, everything included that you would need to start up

Disadvantages: bulky compared to digi camera, fairly heavy, memory cards quite expensive

After years of watching my Dad doing photography courses,i began to get the urge to start trying photography for myself. My Dad has always sworn by Minoltas,so i thought i would give them a try.I purchased a dynax 5xi for a reasonable price, and although it was second hand it had loads of extras and it still looked brand new.
For a beginner it is so easy to use, with the auto mode the minolta does everything for you, just click away and you are guaranteed a quality picture everytime. It doesn't take long to get the hang of the manual features, espiecally as the manual that comes with the camera is set out so well, and if you do get stuck Minolta has a helpline number you can call and speak to some very helpful people(i know i used it).One of the neat features is the built in flash, which is motorised and disapears into the top of the camera body. The flash also has red eye reducer which works a treat. There is a port for a remote control, which is great for long shutter opening times,i managed to take some great pictures of car lights from motorway bridges, which for those of you who know make great pictures when the shutter is left open for more than four seconds.Although i have only used the AF 28-80 lens,i have found it ideal for most amateur situations. There is however a large selection of lens avalible from good photographic shops.
The camera has a card slot for using memory cards(they look simaliar to mobile phone sim cards)which you buy with all different settings for taking many types of photograph
i.e-portrait
transport(for moving objects)
still life
plus many more...
Although the camera is great for beginners,it also has the potential for being a great pro camera, with so many settings and and options to choose from.
All in all this is the perfect camera for enthusiasts and beginners alike. As far as cost is concerned it is reasonably priced, and worth the money. You couldn't ask for much else in a camera, and i still
enjoy using mine.

Hiya and welcome to dooyoo ;)

Not a bad first op, but could do with a bit more info and detail to bring it up to a VU rating, and thereby encourage more reads. It's always a good idea tohave a read around the site to get an idea of the level of detail people expect.

My first camera was a really old Minolta, but it was brilliant!
