Equipped with a high-resolution 4.3x zoom lens, the new IS-500 provides a wide range of focal lengths, from a 28 mm wide-angle to 120 mm telephoto position. The precision-crafted optical system comprises multi-coated lenses, including one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens element, to preserve image clarity even at the highest magnification factor. Flexible shooting modes automatically adjust the camera settings to suit particular compositions such as portraits, landscapes or even fireworks. The users are thus able to exercise their creativity quickly and with little effort in nearly any situation. Assuring optimal illumination at every focal length, this model incorporates a powerful, advanced twin flash system.

Olympus' original All-In-One IS design has been further enhanced and is even more sleek and streamlined. The new styling permits easy, fast access to the controls and intuitive handling. A special Quartzdate version of the IS-500 is also available that permits the date/time of photos to be printed to each frame.
