Advantages: Peace of mind, Encourges independence, New experiences

Disadvantages: Cost, Lack of feedback, Some activites weather dependent

My daughter went to the Camp Beaumont on the Isle of Wight forthe first time last year - and is going agains this year. Moreover she is paying half the cost herself. Recommendation enough from her!

She was ten last year and, though she had stayed with Grandparents, this was her first real time away from home on her own. She had no problems at all, and the camp sounded well organised with "first timers" beging given special attention. Safety sounded to be a high priority (we could tell - it was her only complaint!).

This year they have attemped to get some of the children to "get to know each other" first by (with parental permision) establishing e-mail pen friend groups. In practice my daughter made several friends last year who she has kept in touch with, some of whom are also going again this year

We found it difficult to fault any aspect of the arrangements leading up to the holiday good, though checking your invoice carefully if you are applying for any special offers is a good idea and the Head Office seems a little undermanned during winter months.

The range of activities is impressive, especially (on the Isle of Wight) for water enthusiasts, but there were a range of land activities as well.

Overall its not exactly cheap, but then the level of supervision and activities will not come cheap and it is broadly comparable with the cost of similar holidays at the same time of year.

Camp Beaumont run a range of centres, all of which (even in the brochure) seem different with different ranges of activites on offer - so the recommendation really only applies to the Isle of Wight centre.

Ditto what JP, Nozz & marie said - perhaps also typing up your op in word first would help get rid of silly spelling mistakes.

Welcom e to the site - have fun!

Welcome to Dooyoo, Good first op, but, as the other comments say, more detail on the activities would make it better.
