Luzern is a lovely town in Switzerland but everything seems to be super expensive so before I planned my visit, I looked up where I could stay on the cheap and found the Lido Camping with its very easy to navigate website.
The main bonus of this campsite is that it is so close to the town centre and has all the amenities you could need.
I stayed for one night with 2 of my sisters and my boyfriend. When we arrived (after very easily finding it using a Tomtom) I waited in the car whilst my boyfriend and one of my sisters went into the reception to book us a pitch. The campsite doesn't take reservations for tents.
Whilst I was waiting, an angry member of the public came and ranted at me in German about parking and leaving my engine on, quick tip, the Swiss are very against pollution. My sister goes to school in Switzerland and she told me that her teacher had left his car on to defrost one morning and came outside to find his neighbour had switched off his engine!
When I had found the campsite online I saw that pitches were between 10 and 25 chf each depending on the size so was very surprised when my boyfriend ran out for more money because the bill came to 71chf for one night! It turns out silly me didn't see the full pricelist and the one I had seen was for the pitch alone!
We were given a map and directed to pitch 42 and 43 but there was a large tent taking up half of one of our pitches so we went to get a member of staff who moved us to a more suitable pitch. When we looked at the bill it was 10chf x 2 for the pitches plus 10chf per person, plus tax.
A great advantage is that there is also parking space available by each pitch.
We pitched our tents then went over the road from the campsite to sunbathe on the park by the lake. There is a very big Lido complex opposite the campsite with pools and all sorts of sports pitches, but we wanted to swim in the lake and sunbathe so gave the Lido a miss. After sunbathing we went back to the tents to go and have showers.
The shower rooms were very clean and spacious, with plenty of hot water. We didn't use any of the dish or clothes washing facilities but these rooms were also very clean.
On the way back to the tents we noticed that children only pay half price so we went to ask for the remainder of out money back as we had paid for 4 adults, this was not a problem and the staff were very helpful and spoke good english.
I would recommend this site for a trip to Luzern as it is a wealthy area and you may have to face expensive hotel bills!
Full details of the site are on the website, as they have various forms of accommodation available.
The walk into the town is about 15 minutes leisurely stroll along the lake which is lovely, and great for people watching once you hit the big hotels and restaurants.
We didn't take advantage of all the facilities available on site but from what we did experience, it was a very friendly and clean site.
