Advantages: Great swimming facilities

Disadvantages: Ideal for famillies, though not so much for a quiet holiday

Les Mouettes Camping is part of the recently formed 'Yelloh' chain of campsites not far from Roscoff in Brittany, France. It has been modernised and redveloped in recent years and attracts a large number of foreign visitors, being one of the largest campsites in Norhern France. The "emplacements" are spacious and generally offer enough shade from the hot sun.

The swimming facilities are the jewel in the crown of Les Mouettes and are a fantastic draw that can mean you never really have to leave the resort. There are waterslides aplenty, as well as a lazy river and the waterpark is desribed (though not confirmed) as the "largest in Northern Europe".

The resort itself is ideally located to discover Britanny - but only if you have a hire car. Quimper and Morlaix are within easy driving distance. Without a car though, you can forget it. Public transport is lacking and the nearest supermarket is a nasty trek up a steep hill. Carentec istelf, the nearest "town" is sleepy and, again, up and down some steep hills.

Staff numbers are small but all generally helpful. Despite being a family resort, entertainment closes down promptly at midnight and everybody trots off to their mobiles and tents. The entertainment in the bar area itself though is well-organised and good fun, ranging from pool tournaments to the nightly disco and karaoke. The disco can become a bit "kid-orientated" though, but this is probably typical for many a campsite.

Ignore the estuary immediately outside the campsite; there are far nicer beaches within 5 minute drive of the resort which are secluded and very attractive. The site is ideally located not far from the ferry port, which is ideal for a Plymouth-Roscoff crossing on Brittany Ferries.

Summary: A great family campsite
