When visiting some of the major cities in the UK it is not always possible to have a caravan site which is close enough to the city centre to cycle in. Sadly many cities are also not particularly cycling friendly either. Not so with Cambridge which has in Cherry Hinton a caravan park within a mile or so of the city and with excellent marked cycle paths to reach right into the heart of the city. Of course with its high student population all of whom seem to own a bicycle there are plenty of places where you can leave your bike safely.

Cherry Hinton Caravan Park is a typical Caravan Club site. It is kept immaculately clean by the on-site wardens who are usually retired or semi-retired Caravan Club members. They are always caravan enthusiasts and know what caravanners want, that is a quiet site with the facilities close to hand. Things like the areas for waste bins and water emptying were spotless. The site has a nice natural layout and fills a former lime quarry. There are still traces of the old lime kilns in one part. With plenty of tress and shrubs to form natural breaks the site appears quite compact but can actually cater for over 100 caravans.

The shower and toilet block got a little busy and was just about adequate for the number of guests. Despite this it too was kept very clean. The reception area had a very limited shop but newspapers and milk could be ordered. Living in the country there are no newspaper deliveries for me so having breakfast with the paper was a luxury I savoured for a few days. The reception staff are also the wardens so again they are very friendly and will help you with all the local knowledge. The pitches are reasonably roomy and most have a hard standing, I prefer grass under the awning. The pitch I was on was slightly awkward to get in but once in it was very secluded.
This site is a credit to the Caravan Club, non-members can also stay there but will pay nearer £15 per night compared with £10 per night for a member. These prices assume 2 adults, 1 child with caravan and electricity. With its excellent location I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
