I generally don't have anything negative to say about Slovenia but this is the one situation where I do. We found ourselves in Lendava (near the Hungarian and Croatian borders), rather late in the evening after a day of travelling and followed the signs for camping. When you get to the camp site which is down a 2km road from the centre that was being re-surfaced, you are met with a huge hotel and spa complex, a car park and a small gate with some campervans behind it.
To get an electronic card to get through the gate, you need to register at the reception in the hotel. It cost us about 30 euros for the night, undoubtedly the most expensive camping on the whole trip. The Lendava spa is a 3 star thermal resort and I found that the receptionist staff were quite snobby about even having a campsite!
The ground was hard and full of ants, it was ny on impossible to secure the tent and it's generally just a tin pot campsite on the edge of the resort. The hot water was switched off during the evening and there are no shops located on the campsite (though Lendava is pleasant and it's definitely worth just going there for some food or shopping). I think that this campsite just makes money from people travelling between Hungary and Croatia, as it was no where near as good as any of the other campsites we stayed at in Slovenia. In fact it was bloody terrible and we couldn't wait to leave. Lendava is nice though and it's a shame it doesn't have a decent campsite.
To top things off we lost the irritating electronic card somewhere and lost our 20 euro deposit on it.
