Advantages: pretty, accessible, reasonable
Disadvantages: none
We all know that the Cote d'Azur is supposed to be the playground of the rich and famous - but why shouldn't the rest of us enjoy it. Thanks to a large number of campsites - providing tents and caravans (sorry mobile homes!) holidays here are more affordable. I wouldn't go as far as saying cheap - but definitely more affordable.
Frejus in one town where there are many - most of which appear to be serviced by the big camping companies (Eurocamp, Keycamp to name but two).
The site we stayed at was a 2-3mile drive from the town centre, had good facilities including 3 pools and enough space around the caravan.
Frejus itself is an interesting town. Quite small, it combines remnants of Roman days (including a mini-Colosseum style ampitheatre now used bull fights), Renaissance church plus the usual Mediterranean facilities - including a lively market. It is well located as a base for travelleing round the Cote d'Azur with Nice, Cannes, Port Grimaud, Monaco (and many other less famous towns) within an hour's drive. I would recommend visiting each of these places.
The one place that is worth a visit but difficult to reach is St Tropez. The road into town tends to have a very queue involving a wait of 30-60 minutes. There is a fast ferry from St Raphael which we never tried but which might be the solution.
All in all Frejus is a good centre to use as a base for discovering this beautiful part of the world.
