Advantages: Pub nearby, Shop, Lots of loos
Disadvantages: All the disadvantages of camping, A bit of a trek from Scarborough itself
We stayed at this campsite for one night, in August 2001. It is quite close to Scarborough, well known and tacky seaside resort. Suprisingly, there aren't very many campsite near Scarborough (or not that we could find), and so this one, about 3 miles from the centre, was the best that we could do. The site itself is quite good -- mainly flat, plenty of toilet blocks, showers, etc. Theres a shop with all the usual amenities (bread, milk, bacon, barbeques, raincoats, colouring books for the kids), and a cafe where you can get a cup of tea and a bacon butty (essential!). The site is located next to a Beefeater pub -- very 'chain pub' like, but provides you with a nice whiskey to send you off to sleep. A bit further down the road is another pub, again very family oriented, but with better beer. Its a long hike into Scarborough, but its doable. The nearest part of Scarborough is North Bay, which is far less commerical than South Bay, and altogether much nicer. So, if you're mad enough to want to Camp on the east coast in Yorkshire, Scalby Moor is as good a bet as any. At least you can drink plenty of beer before bed, and get a cup of tea in the morning!
