“ Zuider Ijdijk 20. „
Summer 2008 my boyfriend and I traveled around Europe on a camping trip (France, Switzerland, Germany, Luxemberg, Belgium and Amsterdam) and I can say out of all the campsites we visited (12) this was by far the worst!
We visited camp Zeeburg from the 4th August 2008- 7th August 2008 (it may have been different in less busy times of the year).
Whether you will like this campsite completely depends on your reason for visiting Amsterdam.
Basically if you're going on a lad's holiday or are going to Amsterdam to party and get stoned it will be perfect.
If like me (and I was 19) you are visiting Amsterdam to see the sites then I would not recommend this campsite. Particularly I wouldn't recommend any families or older people to stay at camp zeeburg.
The main reason for this is the amount of space you are allocated. You aren't actually allocated any space, you have to wander around the campsite looking for a spot. If you have a large tent- good luck! We luckily had a small 2-man tent, so found a reasonable space (we had 2m in front of us).
However, when we came back to our tent later on in the day, someone had (and I have no idea how) managed to squeeze into that space. This left us barely able to even get into our tent, let alone sit outside it!!
Another important thing to consider (particularly for families) is that the majority of people camping here are young people. This means people smoking cannabis right next to you and a lot of noise (quite late into the night). This didn't bother us too much, but I would never take my two nieces here EVER!
Also, parking was an absolute nightmare!!
There are no electricity points near the tents (although the staff at reception were kind enough to charge our camera for us!)
That would be one of the few good points about the campsite- the staff were very helpful.
The facilities on site were also good (restaurant, shop, bicycle hire, kayak hire).
That is all the facilities except for the toilets/showers. They weren't too bad, it was just there weren't enough of them. I do not want to queue to go to the loo!
Another positive note is that it was in a very good position to visit Amsterdam. The campsite was just a tram ride away from the centre. Although the area that you had to pass through to get to the tram from the campsite was a bit dodgy (I wasn't too happy at night walking back to the campsite).
This is a excellent campsite in the middle of Amsterdam. The site is a little island in the east of the city. It is a short tram or bike ride in to town. The campsite's brilliant location means that you can explore the many wonders of Amsterdam and still feel like your out in the countryside. The site is suitable for camper vans/caravans and tents. It was a little windy when we camped there but we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and give great tips of what to do in Amsterdam. There is a restaurant and shop on site and you can hire dutch bikes and canoes from the campsite as well. The facilities are all very clean and hygienic. The showers are very warm but you do have to buy tokens to use them. The site is not huge and is very popular, especially at the weekends so get there early. I would definitely recommend this site if you want to experience the joys of Amsterdam whilst on a budget.
