Campingaz 5 Piece Trekking Cook Kit
by cuturechic As explained in previous reviews my partner is a keen fisherman and has been a member of the local pike club since last year. Alot of his trips involve camping something which our whole family can join in on, i never liked camping nor did i think i could do it with two small children but it turns out some of the locks we go to are ... beautiful and the girls really love going. I need my camping trips to be home from home as much as possible, where as my partner is more than happy to slum it. Cooking is made simple and we do have a small campingaz single ring stove its good enough for us but the pots we used were bought from poundland and these felt to bits quiet quickly however being a pound i cant complain. I decided after looking around on ebay and seeing the campingaz trekking set that i wanted to buy it because campoingaz is apparently a good camping brand. The campingaz trekking kits is very reasonably priced. I bought the set from ebay for £11.99. The same sets can be found in go outdoor store and millets out centre. Campingaz trekking kit is a five piece cookware set it contains two saucepan, one lid for the pans, a handle and a strap for wrapping around the set to keep it altogether. The items in the set are all aluminium and for storage each item fits into each other making it easy to carry and the strap goes round the set to hold it in place. Because the set is made from aluminium its really lightweight, the set all together weighs 600g. The pans from the set is ideal for cooking beans, scrambled egg, cans of soup etc , they are quite deep and one has a diameter of 14 cm the slightly bigger one has 17cm diameter. The pans don't have a handle attached , its a leaver type handle that you have to manually grip the pans with. I don't like the handle set up. I always have the fear that the leaver handle could slip and ill drop the pan because it doesn't feel so stable when removing the pot from the stove. The handle is also made from metal and if on the pot for only a few minutes it to get very hot. The good thing is that the pans heats up very quickly because of the thin aluminium metal. The frying pan is ok to use and i can cook a couple of sausages and slices of bacon all at once. The pan diameter is 18 cm. The same leaver handle that clips or should i say grips on under the lip of the pan is used for the frying pan to so safe safty fears with this also. The pan lid is a strange one. It is also aluminium metal with only a small hoop at the top so again you have to use the leaver handle to remove the lid when hot. It is strange in the sense that it only has a diameter of 16cm and fits inside the frying pan , over the top of one of the pans and does not fit the other saying that i don't use it anyways but is still a tad strange. Cooking with the set is quick and easy. In the pans i can boil pans of water super quick around four minutes on full heat of the stove that almost quicker than my kettle. We used a metal for and spoon when using the this set and its ended up scratched to bits. Cleaning the pans are easy to do also with just a quick rinse in water when camping and a hot soap scrub when we get home ready for the next use. I enjoyed using this set and love the way it all goes into each other for storage. The set is very reasonably priced but i feel no thought has gone into the set i.e the safety issues with the handle and the fact it too get hot could cause a nasty burn. I actually would not recommend this set even though its usable , i think there is better and safer sets available and i plan to replace this campingaz trekking set as soon. Read the complete review |

Campingaz Camp Bistro
by cuturechic My partner took up pike fishing last year and joined a pike fishing club in our area. A big part of the club is going away over weekends fishing and camping out , he has been to many beautiful locks. Most of the camping trips the wife and kids are invited and me and my girls have been to a few the most recent one was easter time. I for ... one hate camping even though we have the best of stuff to make or trips as comfortable as possible. The group all eat from one big bbq and there is even a chief to cook breakfast and dinner but nothing in between luckily we have the camping stove so we can have coffee during the day and make the kids lunches etc. The camping stove we have is the campingaz single ring stove. Campingaz is a big brand in camp world according to my partner its one of the bests brands for the stoves anyways we have had the camp bistro for around six years now. I actually bought the campingaz camp bistro from argos, i am sure it was around £14.00. You can buy the camp bistro set in halfords, homebase, go outdoors and seen them in our local millets store a few weeks ago. Campingaz camp bistro comes in a black hard plastic storage case that had a carry handle on it and two strong clips at the top to secure the case when closed. The stove is lightweight to carry and only weighs 2.5kg. The stove is blue in colour with a single ring in the middle. The ring is raised above the flame and does not sit flush on the stove. Its more of a metal support for the pan to sit on and can be lifted of with ease and turned over for storage to sit inside to stove when in transport. The campingaz camp bistro runs on gas canisters. These can be bought from homebase, b&q any good hardware shops. They don't cost much around £4.99. The gas canisters are called CP 250 and is the most common types of gas used for these little stoves. The gas canister fits inside the stove, this is to the right side of the stove there is a door or flap to lift and you can see where the can has to be inserted. Fitting the gas can takes only seconds. On the front right of the stove is a switch this is the ignite switch and next to that is the knob that contols the flame. The igingte switch causes the spark and the knob lets the flame come through. You can control the flame by turning the knob up or down. This is a real simple stove to use and control. On our last camping trip i took a can of lentil soup for the girls to eat and cooking it in the pan on the stove was just as easy to do as it would be on a cooker. It only took around ten minutes for the soup to be warmed through. I have made hot choc, scrambled eggs. Boils pans of boiled water for the coffee in under five miniutes. I also made toast on a tray over the flame that took seven miniutes. I love how quick the stove is at heating up and how portable the stove is , it takes up no room at all. Campingaz camp bistro measures around 16 inches wide and 12 inches tall. The campingaz camp bistro is not only hand for camping but brilliant for power cuts which we seem to suffer alot with in winter, we are just in a bad open area. I remember having a powercut during winter not long after the twins were born and i used the camp bistro to boil the water so i could heat their bottles. Its a really handy piece of equipment. I think this is a great piece of camping equipment and for us a real must have item. I couldn't be without this stove. I highly recommend the campingaz camp bistro. Read the complete review |

Easy Camp Kitchen Stand
by chrisandmark I'm not much of a camper, but will sacrifice my home comforts a couple of times a year as Mark and the kids all enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. I do, however, make some demands before agreeing to spend nights under canvas - one demand being that I do not scrabble about on the floor while cooking as though I were an old Indian ... grandmother cooking chapatis in the middle of a natural disaster. Sorry old Indian grandmothers, you're made of decidedly sterner stuff than me! We'd been using our picnic table to cook on but it was a bit too rickety to be completely safe, then at a (ridiculously OTT safety-wise) camp site last year we were told in no uncertain terms that we'd be thrown out if the army guy (sorry, I mean camping warden) saw us with our cooker on the table one more time. We found the Easy Camp Kitchen Stand in Aldi of all places, I thought it was expensive at £17.99 but a later visit to Go Outdoors assured me that this was actually a bargain as they were charging £35. It's a simple idea; a steel frame with a solid(ish) top and shelf halfway down the stand. Being made of steel it's suitable for prolonged outdoor use as it won't rust over time, this is also a very lightweight metal so you won't need the muscles of Alex Reid to shift the thing around to avoid the wind while cooking. It's not a particularly tall stand with a height of 79cm, this is fine for me (being a short-arse) but at almost 6ft Mark does seem to tower over it and has actually perfected the art of flipping bacon and eggs while sitting in his camping chair. Usually with a bottle of beer in the other hand, sometimes cider. From front to back the stand measures 48cm and the width is 58cm, which makes it fairly compact considering it's basically a table - the stand folds almost flat which is perfect for when the (blessed) time comes to pack everything away into the car and come home. Like all camping equipment, folding the stand is fiddly with the risk of slicing off a finger so be careful - I can picture the scene now as Mark attempted to fold down this stand for the first time, his face red with temper and looking like he wanted to sacrifice it to the camping-gods. It was only when an old man ("I'm 87, you know") came over to help that we got it sussed, which actually shows how awkward it is as Mark's usually pretty good at figuring out things like this. The stand is quite stable, obviously you need to ensure you place it on the most level ground you can find (not always easy in a campsite) to avoid it wobbling around but overall the construction of the stand is very good. The joints are all strongly put together and there's no danger of it collapsing when used sensibly, it's really designed to hold just your camping cooker plus a few bits and pieces on the shelf underneath but on the last night Mark loaded ours with three boxes of Magners cider and it held those with no problems at all. For me this stand definitely made our camping trip (marginally) more enjoyable; I was able to stand and cook a decent meal without worrying about it collapsing on me, the shelf was uber-useful for popping the plates on and comfortably held four normal sized dining plates (I refuse to eat off plastic, I'm not three years old) plus the cooking utensils which weren't in use at the time. When not being used for cooking I found the stand was perfect for popping our bits and pieces on, plus the wobble-free design helped turn it into a nice sized table for putting our drinks and snacks on while we were sitting outside soaking up the last of the evening sun. It's easy to wipe down too, with grease and general food debris being easily wiped away with hot soapy water and a dishcloth. Well, as hot as the campsite could manage - which wasn't actually very hot at all! The one downside was the fact that on the last night it rained quite heavily and the feet sank into the ground slightly, this couldn't have been helped but I think it would have been handy if the manufacturer had added a couple of bars along the base of the stand to prevent this happening as when camping most people don't expect the weather to be gloriously dry for the duration of their break. Overall though it proved to be an excellent buy. Sure, we could have managed without it but why make (camping) life harder than it needs to be? Read the complete review |
