WHAT IS IT?
A plastic container that has been filled with water and then sealed. After you have frozen it you can put it in your cool bag to help keep your picnic fresh.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
You take the ice board and freeze it for a few hours. When it is frozen you lay the board in the bottom of your cool bag and put your food on the top, you can use other boards to make a wall around your food to keep it cold from all of the directions. You will know when it needs to be frozen again because you will be able to hear and feel the melted water inside the ice board.
WHAT I THINK
I am very happy with my ice boards and think they have saved me a lot of money for not having to buy drinks and snacks while we are out, now we can bring our own from home and keep them cold in the cool bag. I bought my Thermos ice boards in a pack of three and there is one large flat board and two smaller flat ones. That is good for arranging them because I put the big one on the bottom and use the other 2 on the sides and they all fit good together.
They take a long time to thaw out and that shocked me because they are thinner than old fashioned ice packs so I thought that they would thaw out quicker. The last time we used them was when we had a day trip in September when the weather was still a little bit hot, I was carrying a lot of cartons of fruit juice for the children we were out with and wanted the drinks to remain cool. The ice boards were good and when we got home I forgot to bring my cool bag in from the garage, when I went to get it the next morning the juices were still cold so that was at least 18 hours that the ice boards lasted for and I think that is very good.
They are very easy to clean and you have only to rinse them under the tap unless food has got on them and then you can wash the boards up properly with hot water and soap. They dry on the draining board or you can towel dry them and to store them you just keep them in a cupboard or you can store them in your freezer and just take them out when you need to use them in your cool bag.
My set of 3 Thermos cost me about £6 and I bought them from Amazon. I am happy with that price because I have saved at least that much and a lot more by being able to take drinks and food out with me instead of having to buy it.
5 Dooyoo Stars.
For years we have used ice packs when going for picnics or going away for the day, or more recently when going on holidays with a child. The problem this year when we were camping for the duration of our holiday, was that, firstly the weather was so hot so we needed a lot of ice packs to keep the food cool that we were bringing with us. Knowing that the weather was going to be super hot, I looked online for some more ice packs and discovered these Thermos Freeze Boards, which were different from the usual, since they were thin boards. I ended up purchasing the triple pack costing me around £7 in argos, which is pretty good value given that they are a durable product, so I shouldn't be needing to replace them anytime soon.
These freeze boards are advertised as an alternative to the usual ice packs with the suggestion that they will keep cooler for longer than a regular one. The big attraction for me, like most people who buy this product I'm sure, is the size. These ice packs take up sooo much less room that the regular size ice packs. We have a cool bag which we take camping and on picnics, and whilst on holiday, we used it everyday when we were out and about, as well as at night to keep food cool. These ice packs were brilliant, and although we still brought a couple of our older, bigger ice packs, I would say that they definitely kept cooler for longer than a regular ice pack, for whatever reason.
I also like the fact that these boards don't take up much room in the freezer. In time, we hope to get ourselves a chest freezer, but at the moment I only have a small freezer section as part of an integrated fridge freezer, so space is important. These are brilliant at taking up very little room and can be slotted into the side of a freezer tray easily, without having to take everything out just to make room.
Whilst out and about with our cool bag, I found I could slot these freeze boards around the side of the cool bag, making the bag far less bulky than it usually is, and it worked very very well. In fact, I intend, before our next camping trip to get another pack of these and replace my older, bulker ice packs entirely. I can't see myself going back to them after using these!
