Prodriver Car Bulb Kit
by Thebaker50
The headlight went on my dad's car, and I was sent to look for a new light bulb to replace the blown bulb. After looking in wilkinson, argos, and online, it seemed the cheapest car bulb was around £10-£15. Imagine my shock when I went into poundland and found this kit, with two bulbs, for only £1! And in the right size! My first job was ... to find a set where the bulbs had not been "smashed" (the packaging on this is terrible for its need, I think it might be the workers putting weight on top, or customers breaking them? Whatever the packaging is just flimsy plastic, that offers no protection to the bulbs whatsoever).
Anyway, once I found a set that wasn't broken (or at least not as far as I could tell), I bought it, and placed it in the car as per instruction. As an aside, I have changed light bulbs before (I've lost count of the number of times I have done it), so I am pretty confident that I didn't damage the bulb in doing so. And when the car was turned on... nothing. I then took that bulb out the car, and placed the other bulb from the kit, and once again... it didn't work. I was then worried maybe there was a problem with the car's fuse, or the wiring to the bulb, so I used the working bulb in the car and switched it to the "non-working" headlamp, and it worked fine.
So basically, these light bulbs are cheap, poor packaged, and don't work. The cheeky thing about what poundland does, it that because its so cheap, you will waste more money returning the bulbs.
Overall then, I can't recommend these bulbs. Their own redeeming feature is the cost, but when you consider that they don't work, not even for a minute... I mean who wants broken light bulbs? If you consider that £1 for a broken bulb, then suddenly the are not so cheap! Read the complete review |

Argos MP3/CD Car Cassette Adaptor
by madeindevon
I drive quite a distance to work every day, and I just cannot find a radio station to suit me, I do like to have music on in the car though.
My current car has a CD Radio, so I have every option, however I have only had this car for a few months and my previous car, affectionately known as Chitty Chitty, as it was such an old ... car had a cassette radio in it.
The radio wasn't the best, signal always seemed quite weak and I haven't had an audio tape for years. The answer that was suggested to me, was to link up my Ipod to the radio and be able to play my Ipod through it and listen to it via the speakers of the car.
This was surprisingly easy - and that was a Car Cassette Adaptor. This particular one that I am reviewing came from Argos, and today (February 2013 it is £14.99) This seems quite expensive to me, I am certain that a couple years ago I paid a lot less for mine, possibly around £5, so it could pay to shop around.
They work very simply. The Adaptor looks, and is, exactly like an audio cassette, but with a cable coming out of the end. You very simply put the cassette into the cassette player in the car and with the cable connect it to the MP3 Player/Ipod. The connection head is the same as a headphone connector, so it fits exactly into the headphone socket - what happens then is the sound from the Music device is transferred into the car stereo and broadcasted back out via the speakers..
Very simple and totally ingenious.. You adjust the volume control as normal, via the car stereo and/or via the music device.. you use your music device to change tracks etc..
When you are not using the adaptor, as it is only a small cassette, rather than having an untidy cable dangling out of the car stereo it is small and compact enough to pop into the glove box of your car.
I have had a few of these adaptors over the years, they are not strong and sturdy, but I used mine constantly -day in, day out and I probably replaced it around every six months.. I find that the cable connection can weaken and eventually stop working. For £14.99 I would expect to get considerably more than 6 months worth of use, but I think that this useful little gadget has gone up in price of late and I know that I didn't object to spending £5 every now and again - it was a small price to pay to keep me from going mad listening to local radio adverts! Little Bird Told Me Softly Snail Baby On Board
by bluebell190
I purchased this baby on board sign from Kiddicare for £4.95, and I am so happy with it! It arrived the next day, after I purchased it online, and it was a little bigger than I was expecting. This baby on board sign is soft, like a teddy material, and is the shape of a snail, with a little house on it's back with the baby on board words ... in the middle of it. It is very cute and very unique, I haven't seen any baby on board signs like this anywhere. It is so much better than a normal plain yellow sign you usually see about. This one has character, and it is so vibrant and colourful, which is great to make sure motorists notice the sign in your car!
This baby on board sign sticks to your car window, wherever you want it, by a rubber suction cup. I put mine up 8 months ago on my rear window, and it has never fallen down since, so it has good suction. I also have a mama and papas baby on board sign in another window, which was a gift, and it falls down all the time, its a pain! So I am happy that this one stays put!
The snail is connected to the rubber suction cup by a string attached to the snail, I found that the snail used to turn round when I first put it up so the baby on board was facing inside the car, but I have finally managed to position it, where it won't spin round. The reason I think it does this, is that it is made to sway and move slightly, this is what it said on the website when I bought it, to attract the attention of drivers so they notice it. It does sway a little, but not too much to be too much of a distraction.
The colours of this sign are pastel colours, so not too bright, except for a bit of bright red on it, but I would say this is more for a girls car, I can't see a man buying this and having it in their car. My boyfriend didn't want one like this, he wanted a more plain one. I like cute things like this, it is definately for a girly girl. Theres not much else I can say about this really! It is cute and bright, looks great in my car window, and for less than a fiver, it is a very different sign to have, and looks less boring than most other signs, which people usually ignore! It is machine washable too so you can keep it clean, and there isn't really anything to go wrong with it, except the suction cup, but it seems really strong and sturdy, and I can see it staying in place for a long time yet.
I would definately purchase again, and it would be a cute extra present for anyone you know having a baby! Read the complete review |
