Yankee Candle Black Cherry Car Jar
by topsyturvy
I love to keep my car smelling nice and my new obsession at the minute is Yankee Candle, I just can't get enough. I previously bought one of their car jars but with the smell eventually fading, it was time to make a trip to my local Yankee Candle shop and get a new one. it was very hard to decide as they all smell amazing but eventually ... I chose the black cherry flavour as the smell was very intense and unlike some of the more faint ones, I hoped this would last a while being very strong.
APPEARANCE
The car jar comes in a small flat plastic packet and it has a cardboard tag at the top, it is very easy to open. The jar is actually shaped like a jar, made from a foam like material and it just looks like a flat cherry candle jar, it is quite big in size but very lightweight. It has a piece of string which is elasticated so that it can go into your car and on the front it has the Yankee Candle logo and the slogan 'a passion for fragrance' as well as a small image of a bunch of cherries together, it looks great.
BLACK CHERRY CAR JAR
The car jars are great, this one is a deep burgundy cherry colour and it was apparent that it was cherry as soon as I released the jar from its packet. It has a rich smell of black cherries, very strong and easy to tell what it is, it smells so real and it is very pleasant and sweet. I put it in my car and the elastic string was easy to wrap around my mirror and it wasn't too long a string so it hangs at just the right height. It looks great in the car and doesn't distract me by dangling around a lot which I like.
I have had this cherry car jar in my car for a month or so now and I still pick up the slightest hint of cherry and my car still smells sweetly pleasant. On the first few days of having this jar, I did think it was really strong but I loved the cherry scent, however even though it has faded a lot it is still subtle and I still like that I can smell the cherry scent, sometimes it seems stronger than others. It does seem to linger in the car and the cherry one so far has kept its smell longer than my last which is a good sign.
I am a big fan of these car jars and think they are great value for money, they do smell just like the candles and having an air freshener shaped like a jar is unique in itself and it makes my car look that bit more special. These aren't too expensive and the smells are great on them, very addictive. Cherry is one of my favourite smells and the fact that this smells so real is a bonus as I have purchased some cherry items which have never had as good a scent as this car jar does.
The smell reminds me a lot of Dr pepper but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is sweet. I would happily recommend these Yankee Candle car jars to anyone who needs a new car air freshener, the black cherry one is a great choice if you like a sweet fruity scent but there are just so many to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. The black cherry one has a longer lasting scent which has been proven to me and I would happily buy this particular scent again.
COST
These can be bought online on places like eBay or Amazon or Yankee UK who are selling them for £1.99. I bought mine in a shop for about £3.25 so this is a good price.

Yankee Candle Black Cherry Car Jar
by Drewster_Rooster
A while ago I bought and wrote a review on a pack of Gel Air Fresheners from Yankee candles that were designed to hang from a rear view mirror of a car to provide freshness and a pleasant aroma. In that review I mentioned that they were quite a pricey option costing over £6.00 for a triple pack and that whilst I couldn't fault them for ... what they offered I doubted I'd buy them again. On the look-out for something more reasonable in price but still from the Yankee range saw me recently purchase the subject of this review, the Black Cherry Air Freshener 3 pack at a bargain price of £2.50 from Halfords.
Unlike the other Gel car Air Fresheners in Yankee's range these are the more 'traditional' fragrance-infused shaped pieces of cardboard much akin to the Magic Tree range of similar items. If anyone has ever used the Magic Tree fresheners before you'll be aware that they can be incredibly strong when they are first removed from their plastic packaging and that you should only reveal a little of the cardboard at a time otherwise they're likely to overpower. Figuring these from Yankee were going to be the same I tentatively unwrapped the first one from its plastic packaging but was relieved to find that whilst I immediately recognised the scent of Black Cherry from the numerous candles I've had in the past in the same fragrance it wasn't nose-achingly strong and that I could hang it from my rear view mirror in its unwrapped state.
Black Cherry is one of my favourite Yankee fragrances and I would say that they've managed to replicate it here pretty well. It's not quite the same as it is in wax format but it's close enough to be a rich, fruity scent that really appealed to me. The air freshener is shaped to resemble one of Yankee's famous glass jarred candles and comes attached to a piece of elastic that stretched easily over my rear view mirror, I had issues with the Gel pack's string as it was quite tight but on these they are of decent length that they shouldn't snap. The freshener hangs from a rear view mirror quite unobtrusively although do be careful that it doesn't obscure your view through your windscreen and once in place it simply hangs moving backwards and forwards with the motion of your car.
For the first few days I could immediately smell its aroma as soon as I opened my drivers side car door and although I would say it is quite a strong scent at first it does soon settle down to be more of a background scent than anything too overpowering. I did find that it lacked the staying power of the Gel equivalents which probably explains why they're a little bit cheaper in price and after 10 days or so its fragrance had all but disappeared to me although other people said that could still smell it when they were in my car. Because I used to smoke in my car (I don't anymore since our new arrival) I found its interior to be a bit fusty and this helped to eliminate lingering tobacco smells and old doggy smells that were still in there and these combined with plenty of fresh air through my windows have made my car's interior a much more pleasant place to be. It's not a miracle product, it doesn't put your car back to showroom condition or brings back that new-car smell but they do, for a short while at least, add a little interest and fruity aroma which should definitely appeal.
Overall I was happy with my purchase but felt a little let down with their longevity, compared to Magic Tree air fresheners these are much better and not as pungent or artificial-smelling and Yankee have done a good job in replicating their Black Cherry fragrance in these air fresheners. A 3 pack of these lasted a good 4-6 weeks which isn't too terrible when you consider they only cost me £2.50 and I would buy them again if they're still on offer in Halfords the next time I pay them a visit. Usually they retail for around £4.99 for a pack of 3 which makes them a little on the expensive side I think but I like their design and shape and think that they do fit nicely within the Yankee range of products.
3 stars as a rating seems a bit mean and 4 stars a little too generous I think but for the sake of this review I will round them up to 4 stars as I would buy them again if on offer and I do think they are a lot better than other air fresheners that are available. Recommended but only just, thanks for reading my review. Read the complete review |

Magic Tree Car Air Freshener
by Abski2001
I don't get chance to drive my car that often as I tend to walk to my work, so it is mainly used by me for going to the gym or shopping. My partner however uses it on a daily basis and actually keeps it tidy and well maintained with a little help from a Magic Tree Air Freshener.
The Magic Tree
Magic Tree is ... actually licensed out from the US company called Car-Freshner Corporation and they produce 'Little Trees' on a mass scale. All of these are made in the shape of an evergreen tree which of course smell lovely and keep their leaves all year round.
The magic tree is pretty much what it says on the tin, a tree shaped (magical?) air freshener. The magic trees are made out of a material similar to a beer coaster that you find in pubs, a bit like a thick piece of cardboard but with a smooth surface that seems to absorb the scent. They are quite a discrete size with approximate dimensions of 14cm x 6cm x 0.2cm, with a loop in the top and a piece of elastic looped through to attach it to an area of your car. The bottom of the air freshener has the scent written on it and the colour also depends on what flavour you pick.
The Magic Trees come in a sealed plastic wrapper to keep the air freshener scent in until you open it.
New Car Scent
I bought two different types of scents of these Magic Trees when they were on offer and one of them was the New Car Scent. I was immediately attracted to this smell as there is nothing better and cleaner smelling than a new car! The Magic Tree is a dark blue colour which also happens to match my car anyway. The air freshener grabs you as soon as you open the packet and it is a very fresh and 'new' smelling scent.
I hang this off of my rear view mirror and it fills the car with a lovely and rich new car scent which you can smell as soon as you open the doors. I really like this smell and it is very welcoming when you get into the car. After a couple of weeks the smell obviously weakens but generally I don't need to replace it for a good month or so, which for the price and lovely scent is very good value in my opinion.
I picked this up in Tesco on a two for £2 offer which is a bargain for such a decent car air freshener. They are available everywhere from forecourts to supermarkets and are the classic Magic Tree air freshener. Read the complete review |
