      A nifty item

      We bought this device a few years ago when we went on a driving holiday to the Czech Republic. We drove through France and Germany before arriving at our destination and spent a lot of time on the road. We had a camera at the time that ran on AA batteries so we though this would be the perfect accompaniment on the road trip so we never had to run out of batteries and miss out on taking those photographs.

      ==Price and availability==

      The cost of this device is really cheap and we paid around £4.99 from a garage. We were a little dubious at whether it would work but we decided to give it ago.

      ==Description==

      The charger fits into the cigarette lighter port and is made from plastic. With our kit we also got 2 rechargeable AA batteries so use with it. The charger can work with two AA or AAA batteries and has two compartments for you to slot the batteries into. The contraption fits securely into the cigarette lighter port and has a left and right LED light so you know which battery is charging.
      This is a really simple and effective solution to charging batteries and although the device feels quite poorly constructed; it works. The moulded plastic of the device feels like it will break open but we have had it a few years now and it still works fine.

      ==My experiences==

      This device fits neatly into my glove box and is quite small really. Unfortunately things nowadays run on Lithium batteries so we do not use it very often at all. We upgraded our camera so we do not need it to charge these batteries but it is always there for when we need it.
      This is a really useful bit of kit if you have things that run on AA batteries and you are going on a long journey. These batteries take around 2-3 hours to be charged up and probably last around 3 hours depending what you are using them in. I do not find they hold their charge as long as they used to but they still work nonetheless.

      The device has a few built in safety features such as reverse polarity detection, Short circuit protection and Bad cell / alkaline detection. This makes the machine really safe so you do not need to worry about it whilst you are driving. I'm happy with this machine and if they brought out one that would charge my camera battery I would be over the moon and buy it again. It is horrible being caught short without batteries and having to pay the extortionate rates they charge if you get to a tourist trap without them!
      For less than a fiver you really cannot complain about this machine. It does the job and in just over two hours you have two fully charged batteries. I would recommend it definitely. It also makes a great gift, we were so pleased with it and it was so cheap we bought the father in law one for his birthday. Perfect for gadget lovers!
