“ Manufacturer: Silver Cross / Type: Travel Safety Accessories - Sign for car window „
When I found out I was expecting I knew exactly what pram I wanted and when I was browsing the Silvercross Website I found this little soft baby on board sign.
As I had the pistachio car seat I thought this would co-ordinate well and I also wanted a soft toy like sign to use in my car.
I bought this brand new from ebay for just under £3 but you can purchase it from Silver Cross for just £5.
The item contains a sucker to attach to the rear view window and it alerts other drivers to the fact that a baby is on board.
The item is a quilted sign and the hedgehog has a padded head, it does tend to spin around when I am driving which I suppose is where it defeats its purpose in alerting drivers to the fact that there is a baby on board.
Like the other toys in the Silvercross Homegrown range the item has different textures but the purpose for that I am a little unsure as it is not really designed for baby to play with although it does state suitable from 0+.
In terms of safety aids this is ok as far as it goes but I don't feel it keeps drivers from driving too close to the back of my car.
When I saw this on Ebay I brought it for my mate, it was a mega bargain off a bloke with about 50 of them for sale..... only £1.99 with postage and that's such a bargain when you look at the plain plastic Baby On Board signs you can get in Sainsburys and places like that. 5 mins after I ordered my mates I went back and grabbed another one for our family car because the Little Miss Naughty sign we was using before had come unattached from the suction cup and kept falling off.
This is such a cute Baby On Board sign, I've not seen them on anyone elses car when we've been out and about and I've had a few people say how nice it is. It's really a flat soft hedgehog hanging off a suction cup, it looks more like a toy than a safety thing and is actually a bit old fashioned looking but in a good way.
I love the way the hedgehogs spines are made out of different coloured pieces of material, these are padded out a bit but are still very flat so that this doesn't get in the way of the window like a round and prickly soft toy hedgehog would! I have never thought it looked all that much like a hedgehog actually, it's more like a Roland Rat thing lying on a patchwork quilt to me..... have a look at the photo Dooyoo have got up, would you know it was a hedgehog at first look???
There is one problem with it and that's because of the weight of the hedgehog, it will only hang dead straight down. You're ok in a hatchback where the back window goes pretty much straight down but when my dad was using a new Mondeo the other week it looked stupid hanging off the majorly sloped back window of that. He ended up putting it on the back passenger window and that just looked mad!
I don't know if some people might think the bit that actually reads Baby On Board is a bit small, it doesn't stand out all that well like the strong dark print on most of the plastic signs. We all agree in my family that that doesn't matter much, this design is OBVIOUSLY a sign that there is a small child in the car.... and anyway, I think if you was heading to an accident you'd do you're best to get out of it with or without knowing there was a baby in the car in front! Harsh, but I'd love to know a proper experts view on these sorts of signs.
This sign is very well made, it's been used for months now and is still looking good. It helps that it's hardly ever touched because it's just in the back window of the car but I noticed it was getting a bit grimy a few days ago so I wiped it with a baby wipe and that did the trick. I know at 3 my sister isn't a baby anymore but this is such a nice decorative thing for the car that I think it would be a shame to take it down.... but if we did I'd just cut the sucker off and let my sister play with it for a bit!
Recommended..... at last something a bit different from a plain yellow or pink plastic Baby On Board sign!
