Advantages: Cheap, easy to secure in place, easy to reposition, nice view of child

Disadvantages: Can only see one child with it

After passing my driving test last November I bought my first car. When driving, I found it hard driving and keeping an eye on my daughter at the same time and found myself glancing over my shoulder, this was very dangerous when driving and I quickly started looking for a mirror to use to keep an eye on my daughter.

My first stop was Amazon, I was looking at the reviews for baby car mirrors and they didn't sound all that fantastic. I looked in the motors category and came across this Summit RV-34 mirror. The reviews looked good so I ordered this one.

My first thought when I took it from the packaging was that it looked like the mirror my driving instructor used in his learner car so that he could keep an eye on what was going on behind when he was in the passenger seat. I would imagine that this would be another good use for this mirror.

The mirror measures approximately 12cm x 5cm, the Amazon name says that this is a large mirror but I don't think it is. It is smaller than the normal interior mirror you have in the car. The mirror has a suction cup that is worked by a twist and lock mechanism so you don't have to worry about licking the cup and trying to get it to stay in one place. Simply put the mirror where you want it on the windscreen and twist the mechanism to lock the suction cup in place. It took me a couple of times to secure it in place properly as I always wound the mechanism too far and it would come straight off again. Since I secured it properly I haven't experienced the mirror falling off in the 6 months that I have owned it.

As my daughters car seat is placed behind the passenger seat, I placed the mirror above the interior car mirror on the right. The position of the mirror can be changed when it is already secured to the window so once you are in the drivers seat it is easy to adjust so that you can get the view that you want. When sitting in the drivers seat I have a good view of my daughters head and shoulders, granted this isn't the best view possible but it is fine for our use. If you had to have a view of the whole back seat I wouldn't recommend this mirror as I can only see my daughter in this mirror.

The mirror cost me £3 from Amazon, compared to the mirrors aimed directly towards children in the car this is quite a lot cheaper. I would say this mirror sounds better after reading reviews on the others so it is definitely worth £3.

I would, without a doubt, recommend this mirror if you are looking for an effective way to keep an eye on a child in the car. The mirror stays in place well, easy to position and gives a good view of a single child. If you have more than one child sat in the back seat then this wouldn't be the mirror for you.

Summary: Great way to keep an eye on my monkey in the back seat
