Simple flexible mounting, that could be standard? (TomTom Alternative Mount Kit)

Advantages: Removable, adjustable and very stable on the dash

Disadvantages: An extra purchase on top the standard unit.

I love my TomTom 720 and hope to keep hold of it for ages. As such the idea of leaving a visible mount on the dash or windsceen does not particularly appeal.

But, I hear you say you can dismount the sucker from the screen......yet it still leaves the telltale ring and would be a total pain to put back each time you wanted the SatNav. Since I use mine in tandem with my mobile phone this was another reason to find a better solution.

I trawled around and found a bean bag type mount, shaped like doughnut which just sits in the well in the centre of my dash. This stays put just fine, but the standard mount supplied by TomTom is not tall enough to position the SatNav.


Answer, the TomTom flexible mount. Long enough to bend almost double and rest the edge of the SatNav on the outer ring of the doughnut, the whole unit sits plop in the centre of the dash. It takes less than 5 secs to remove the TomTom from its protective bag in the boot, plop it down on the dash and get moving.


Would be thieves and lovers of ugly rings on the windscreen have no idea ther is a SatNav in the car.

To practicalities, the flexible arm (which is like a metal coated spiral stalk) is long enough to reach many awkward places, and its still fits via the standard suction mounting.

Why oh why can't TomTom and their competitors be more innovative in their standard mount options without having to resort to such accessories??
