Advantages: Issues better light. Lasts longer.
Disadvantages: None but the cost.
OK, firstly I will say just what Xenon bulbs are, then try and tell you some answers to the questions you may have.
A few years ago, ir you saw bright headlights behind you, which has a blue tint, you would know it was a Police car, the trend was soon followed by the likes of Audi and Mercedes, then Vauxhall. Now a lot more manufacturers are using these bulbs.
A Xenon bulb (or more properly a lamp) contains a filament, just like any other bulb, this filament glows white when an electrical current is passed through it. The filament would burn out instantly however, so an inert gas is used to fill the glass housing. In the case of these bulbs, Xenon gas is added either as well as other gasses, or instead of them. The light emmited is far better than normal halogen bulbs, and much better than the old incandescant bulbs, plus the bulb operates cooler, the life expectancy is much improved too. These will last between eight thousand hours, and an impressive twenty thousand hours!
You may well remember that Halogen bulbs had to be handled with either gloves or a cloth, otherwise the bulb would fail prematurely, well with these bulbs that is not the case.
You can use these in any car, van, truck or whatever, with a drastic improvement to your lighting. The fittings are identical, and the choice is one you will not regret.
Just one word of caution, you will often see these at car boot sales, market stalls etc. and some are simply halogen bulbs with a blue coating, so be warned.
The use of these bulbs is not limited to vehicles, they are now being used in kitchens and bathrooms. You can even use a dimmer switch with them, making them last even longer.
Going back to road vehicles, I would recommend them to all, and they are available at all motor accessory shops. Christmas is coming, and a pack of these makes a very good stocking filler.
I will not even go into the price, because the cost of these varies by a huge amount. Just take note of the prices at a couple of shops in your area nesxt time you are passing.
Summary: A very good upgrade to any vehicle.
