I am a HUGE Yankee candle fan, so when I saw that there were car fresheners, I just had to buy one. I''m not disappointed -- the smell is amazing and it lasts ages! I can''t bear smelly cars! (for example, when we take the dog out and she decides to walk through every muddy puddle, then gets in my car!). I''d rather smell this gorgeous smell in my car!! Definitely worth buying. I''ve used the Magic Tree range for a while and was always quite impressed. Until I found these -- the smell stays really strong and just lasts!
I always have an air freshener in my car as we take the dogs out a lot and the smell of 'wet dog' isn't particularly pleasant and can be quite embarrassing when carrying friends and family in the car. I have always used the Magic Tree range of air fresheners, but I am a huge fan of Yankee Candles, so when I saw a car air freshener in the shape of a Yankee Candle, I just had to purchase it!
Whereas most car air fresheners are made from cardboard, this is a lot nicer. The air freshener is shaped just like a Yankee Candle jar, though a miniature version obviously! It is made of clear plastic, with the freshener being a gel like substance inside the jar.
I am not sure if there are different scents available, but when I brought mine from Halfords, this was the only scent on the shelves. This scent is black cherry and is just lovely.
Some air fresheners can be a little too strong when you first remove them from the packaging, but you don't get that problem with this one. The smell is quite strong, but quite subtle too so it doesn't hit you as soon as you open your car doors. The fruity cherry smell is lovely and really inviting.
Whereas some fresheners can sit on the dashboard, this one hangs from your rear view mirror via a thin piece of elastic. The elastic doesn't hang too low so it gets in the way when you are driving and I can honestly say it has never annoyed me when driving at all.
~Does it last?~
The simple answer to this question is yes, it does. I brought mine around 2-3 months ago and although the smell is starting to fade now, so I feel it will need replacing in the next few weeks, it has lasted well as you can still smell it now, just nowhere near as strongly as you could when I purchased it.
This wasn't cheap by an means. I purchased mine from Halfords for £4.99. That is a bit expensive when you consider you can buy a Magic Tree one for 99p, but this one looks nicer, smells lovely and lasts well too so I have no problems with the amount it cost at all.
I love this car air freshener and can honestly say it is the best one I have ever used. It is probably the most expensive one I have ever brought, but my love for Yankee Candles attracted me to it in the first place and I love the look and smell of this air freshener and so when this one has run out completely, I will be replacing it with the same one again so this one gets a thumbs up from me.
You can possibly tell from my previous review that I am a big fan of Yankee Candles. I was delighted when I would out that I could keep my car smelling fresh with the gorgeous scent of Yankee Candles too and not just my home.
Car air fresheners are a funny thing.. They usually start off with a very strong smell and eventually fade into nothing after a couple of days - Not these though. Yankee Candle have managed to accomplish what most other car fragrance companies couldn't, a long lasting, intense smell.. without being too overpowering.
Like most air fresheners, the Yankee Candle Car Jar comes in a clear package and is flat with a little string to hang from your interior mirror. The packaging is very easy to open and is made from a very soft foam/card material. This particular fragrance comes in a deep burgundy colour and smells of rich black cherries - a very sweet smell.
I have seen this sold all over in major retailers for very different prices, I bought mine from Ebay from £1.89 which seems to be the cheapest around.
Overall this product is worth the money and will make your car smell fabulous.
Last weekend my boyfriend and I stayed in Derby, on Saturday we decided to have a look around Derby City Centre and do some shopping. Whilst there I noticed a lovely shop called "Aroma" with large displays in their windows advertising their Yankee Candle 50% off sale and dragged my boyfriend in to peruse. Whilst I was busy sniffing all the Yankee Candles and tarts my boyfriend noticed a stand displaying a variety of Yankee Candle "Car Jar" air fresheners, as he absolutely loves cherries I was not at all surprised that a black cherry "Car Jar" managed to make its way into my basket.
The Yankee Candle black cherry car freshner came packaged in a cardboard slip which showed the brand and product name along with a background picture of some juicy looking red cherries. The freshener itself was contained within a plastic wrapper stapled to the cardboard slip.
General information was given on the back of the slip including directions for use and warnings. All of which should be read thoroughly before using.
When we had finished shopping we headed for the car park and once back in the car I opened up the car freshener and placed it over the rear view mirror.
The air freshener is around the same size as a magic tree, but it looks much more classy. It is shaped just like a Yankee Candle in its glass jar. "Yankee Candle" is written in clear capital lettering along the top and there is a picture of a punnet of cherries on the "Jar". The air freshener is made out of cardboard, but it is quite thick and of a brilliant quality. I think its looks really good hanging in the rear view mirror, it looks expensive and eye - catching especially compared to all the regular car fresheners.
Yankee suggest cutting a small opening in the top of the bag and to pull out the freshener slowly over time to give a longer lasting fragrance. I didn't have any scissors with me and even if I did I probably wouldn't have bothered with this method, so I removed all the plastic at once.
The fragrance was very powerful, but my boyfriend and I both liked it, each time we got in the car one of us would remark on how good it smelled. The freshener has an incredibly fruity cherry fragrance, but rather than smelling fake, artificial and chemically like the countless other car fresheners we have used in the past the Yankee Car Jar had a lovely fresh real aroma to it. I was a little dubious if we would continue to like the cherry fragrance during out two hour drive home the next day and was slightly worried that it may get a little sickly especially as it was such a warm day. However, I needn't have worried as the fragrance remained pleasant, due to the warm day we had the windows down most of the way anyway as our air con is rather rubbish. My boyfriend has had problems with car fresheners causing him headaches but this one didn't cause him any problems.
Over the past few days I have been in and out of the car going shopping and running general errands, each day the fragrance was a little less noticeable. At the weekend my boyfriend and I took the kids the beach and whilst driving up there we both remarked that the fragrance could barely be detected at all. I guess I cannot complain to much about the lack of longevity from this freshener, perhaps if we had used it as instructed it would have lasted longer. I haven't bothered removing the freshener, it is still dangling in our rear view mirror, because although the fragrance is well gone I still think the design is really cool.
Yankee Candles black cherry Car Jar had a lovely fragrance and made our car smell delicious and fruity, I would certainly try other fragrances. I give this product four Dooyoo stars out of five, it was really nice but at £2.25 I found it to be a little expensive.
( Please ignore the processing / quality, reliability, features and spaciousness rates at the bottom, clearly this is a review on a car air freshner so these rates are not applicable)
My daughter has a mild obsession with car air fresheners, so as a result of her constant badgering I regularly have one in my car. I am a big fan of the Yankee candles so I was curious as to how they would work in the form of a car air freshener.
They are easy to use; simply open the packet, remove and hang the elastic loop over something in the car. I generally hang mine over the gear stick but many others hang them over the rear view mirror.
I bought this as part of a multi pack of three different car fresheners, one black cherry, one sweet strawberry and another was kiwi berries. I had initially been lured by the strawberry scented one, but my favourite by far was the black cherry. It has a deep fruity scent with strong sweet undertones, reminiscent of a bowl of cherries - good enough to eat.
The scent was quite strong for a few days but after a week or so it began to fade so that only a brief hint of cherry was discernible when opening the car door. I had hoped that it would last longer than other air fresheners so was disappointed that it didnt. However, the smell was still superior to most other brands and lasted just as long, so despite the cost I have bought some more.
A while ago I bought and wrote a review on a pack of Gel Air Fresheners from Yankee candles that were designed to hang from a rear view mirror of a car to provide freshness and a pleasant aroma. In that review I mentioned that they were quite a pricey option costing over £6.00 for a triple pack and that whilst I couldn't fault them for what they offered I doubted I'd buy them again. On the look-out for something more reasonable in price but still from the Yankee range saw me recently purchase the subject of this review, the Black Cherry Air Freshener 3 pack at a bargain price of £2.50 from Halfords.
Unlike the other Gel car Air Fresheners in Yankee's range these are the more 'traditional' fragrance-infused shaped pieces of cardboard much akin to the Magic Tree range of similar items. If anyone has ever used the Magic Tree fresheners before you'll be aware that they can be incredibly strong when they are first removed from their plastic packaging and that you should only reveal a little of the cardboard at a time otherwise they're likely to overpower. Figuring these from Yankee were going to be the same I tentatively unwrapped the first one from its plastic packaging but was relieved to find that whilst I immediately recognised the scent of Black Cherry from the numerous candles I've had in the past in the same fragrance it wasn't nose-achingly strong and that I could hang it from my rear view mirror in its unwrapped state.
Black Cherry is one of my favourite Yankee fragrances and I would say that they've managed to replicate it here pretty well. It's not quite the same as it is in wax format but it's close enough to be a rich, fruity scent that really appealed to me. The air freshener is shaped to resemble one of Yankee's famous glass jarred candles and comes attached to a piece of elastic that stretched easily over my rear view mirror, I had issues with the Gel pack's string as it was quite tight but on these they are of decent length that they shouldn't snap. The freshener hangs from a rear view mirror quite unobtrusively although do be careful that it doesn't obscure your view through your windscreen and once in place it simply hangs moving backwards and forwards with the motion of your car.
For the first few days I could immediately smell its aroma as soon as I opened my drivers side car door and although I would say it is quite a strong scent at first it does soon settle down to be more of a background scent than anything too overpowering. I did find that it lacked the staying power of the Gel equivalents which probably explains why they're a little bit cheaper in price and after 10 days or so its fragrance had all but disappeared to me although other people said that could still smell it when they were in my car. Because I used to smoke in my car (I don't anymore since our new arrival) I found its interior to be a bit fusty and this helped to eliminate lingering tobacco smells and old doggy smells that were still in there and these combined with plenty of fresh air through my windows have made my car's interior a much more pleasant place to be. It's not a miracle product, it doesn't put your car back to showroom condition or brings back that new-car smell but they do, for a short while at least, add a little interest and fruity aroma which should definitely appeal.
Overall I was happy with my purchase but felt a little let down with their longevity, compared to Magic Tree air fresheners these are much better and not as pungent or artificial-smelling and Yankee have done a good job in replicating their Black Cherry fragrance in these air fresheners. A 3 pack of these lasted a good 4-6 weeks which isn't too terrible when you consider they only cost me £2.50 and I would buy them again if they're still on offer in Halfords the next time I pay them a visit. Usually they retail for around £4.99 for a pack of 3 which makes them a little on the expensive side I think but I like their design and shape and think that they do fit nicely within the Yankee range of products.
3 stars as a rating seems a bit mean and 4 stars a little too generous I think but for the sake of this review I will round them up to 4 stars as I would buy them again if on offer and I do think they are a lot better than other air fresheners that are available. Recommended but only just, thanks for reading my review.
