Advantages: Standard picture and sound quality - no complaints there

Disadvantages: A little bulkier and heavier than other models, and a little difficult to operate at first

We bought this DVD player at Costco a couple of months ago - my father-in-law was in hospital for an extended period and we wanted to give him something to do, so we bought him Season 1 of 'The Wire' and this DVD player. Since he's come back home, we have gotten a lot of use out of it on numerous train journeys. We have only rarely used it on battery, but when we have, it's lasted through at least one average-length film. Whether you are using headphones or the external speakers, the sound quality is great. It's quite easy to use (though the remote can be alternately hyper-sensitive or not sensitive enough - it took us a couple of tries the first time to get it on and sorted). There is one major drawback for me - that is its weight. I would never consider taking it anywhere other than a long-haul trip as it is quite heavy, and I really need to justify carrying such an additional weight when I could be carrying something lighter but just as entertaining (like an iPod). I know there are lighter versions on the market today - but this was the only option available at Costco when we went, and to be fair, it has always worked just fine!

Summary: Good for what it is - it only needs to do one thing, really!
