Why do we need RCs for our car stereos? (Kenwood KDC W4044UA)

Its a good stereo but I have always wondered about something when working with such electronics. Why would a consumer need a remote control for his car stereo? Its always really close and its not like you change songs from the back seat of the car.
I guess the only reason to use a remote control would be to change the songs if you are standing right next to the car. But this is an IR (infra red) remote control .. so you have to point it directly to the panel of the stereo in order for it to work. I would be really glad if someone tells me how an RC makes your life easier in a car.
We had an RC in our family 4x4 .. and we have never even used it. Its touch screen .. how much simpler can it get? Besides, removing the RC from the set would make it cheaper to buy!

Summary: Nobody actually needs a remote control for his car in my opinion.
