Being a massive car fan for many many years, there is nothing more I like than on a nice sunny day (not to hot mind you) to clean my car. I am not obsessed to the point where every day I am cleaning it, as I don't have the time. But every 3 weeks it gets a good clean. I refuse to have anyone else do it. I won't allow even my local BMW car dealer touch it because I don't trust them. Too many bad experiences with them and Audi. Anyway, when it comes to car cleaning things, hopefully all my reviews will point you to the correct cleaning products. Over the years, I have tried a lot, read in depth reviews on the best products to obtain the best results. So lets start with glass. We all know what is it is, it helps you look outside and products your from flying bugs, stones and rain. I won't bore you with the details to much. A lot of people will probably use household window cleaner which contains a hell of a lot of vinegar. But don't forget, you need your wipers to go over this, so you want something that will be kind to those. You don't want smears either because it defeats the idea of cleaning the glass. What do you need then? Well its Autoglym Fast Glass. Has to be the best on the market. Its approximately just over £4 for 500ml of the stuff. Comes with a bottle with a spray nozzle. It is not over powering with smell and nothing like the window cleaner you get for your home. But then you don't buy something for the smell. Performance is second to none. Spray on, and I leave it to run abit so that it covers more of the surface, then take a clean micro fibre cloth and in circular motion, just work the product into the glass. It initially might look like its smearing but within seconds it dries to leave a completely clear window. No smears, no marks. Then take another microfiber towel just to go over the window again. Simple. Wipers don't make any noises when being used with the product. Whilst it is a very basic product to use, the results are out standing with little effort.
My other half has a vast array of car cleaning goodies, and whenever I decide to give my poor car a well-deserved clean (it isn't very often!), I'm spoilt for choice. I recently discovered 'Fast Glass' by Auto Glym. In simple terms it's a glass cleaner, but it is also suitable for acrylic, perspex, plastic windows and other hard surfaces. Fast Glass comes in a white 500ml spray bottle, it currently costs £6.99 from Halfords, although you may fid it for cheaper elsewhere. The spray nozzle has a twistable 'on/off' cube at the end to make sure you don't get accidental squirts when you're not using the product. To use Fast Glass you simply spray it onto the surface and polish away with a clean absorbent cloth/kitchen roll, or the recommended 'Auto Glym perfect polishing cloth'. The instructions state that bird droppings, tree sap and polish stains on paintwork and plastic may require soaking or re-application. The cleaner is a watery consistency and has a slight blue tinge to it, it smells similar to most other glass cleaners on the market. I first used Fast Glass on my windscreen, which is an area I'm wary of using products on as there's nothing worse than finding they've smeared. Much to my delight I found that it polishes away very easily, and leaves a fantastic finish behind. I used kitchen roll to polish the cleaner away as it's disposable and cheap, I found it ideal. Circular motions seem to make polishing it away quicker, and you can cover large surfaces without finding the residue has dried and become stubborn. I was able to do my windscreen in two sections, and I would have done it in one if my arms were long enough! I found around 4 good quirts enough to do my entire windscreen, so a 500ml bottle will last a very long time. After my car windows I used Fast Glass on my wing mirrors and interior mirror. Again, the finish was fantastic, flawless and much easier to achieve than other glass cleaners I have used - there is much less labour involved with this product. Fast Glass is free of abrasives, waxes and silicones which seems to be why it leaves no residue. As well as in the car, I have started to use Fast Glass on my house windows. I find it quicker to polish away than other glass cleaners I have used and the finish is far superior to some cheaper products I have used in the past - it's not just for things with wheels! I would definitely recommend this product if you would like to get a great finish on glass without a lot of elbow grease, it's not the cheaper window cleaner around, but it is good quality. 5/5 from me.
Autoglym have a great reputation for producing high quality car maintenance products. My partner and I bought this glass cleaner to assist us in keeping our cars looking in great condition and the glass smear free. *Price and availability* The 500ml bottle costs around £6.99 and is available from garage stores or supermarkets. It is available online also and eBay is probably the best place to get a cheap bottle from; there are some online for £4.99. *Description* The glass cleaner comes in a 500ml bottle. The design of the bottle is similar to other autoglym products except the label of this one is lilac. At the top is a spray bottle with an easy to hold lever to pump the spray out. One pump gives a solid burst of clear watery particles and two pumps of the handle are enough to coat the whole windscreen so it is very quick to apply. The glass cleaner smells fresh and clean and doesn't smell too chemically unlike some other cleaners. The glass cleaner is specifically designed for use in the interior or exterior of the vehicle. For this reason it does not contain any silicone or wax as these could lead to smearing if it rains or gets wet, causing very dangerous driving condition. Wax and silicone are used in other household glass cleaners to give the glass an extra shine. The Fast Glass can also be used on plastic areas of the interior such as the dashboard, to remove dust, and on paintwork to safely remove insects, tree sap and bird droppings if you can't wash the car straight away. Tree sap and bird droppings can seriously bleach your paintwork if left so it is great this spay has other functions other than just for glass. *My experience* I use a microfiber cloth with the spray as other dusters can leave particles and bits of fluff on the windows. Microfiber clothes are also great at picking up the dust and keeping hold of it. I like the fast glass because it is really easy to use and doesn't leave any residue on the windows. However, I have used the spray with a tissue when I had misplaced my cloth and it did not have the same effect on the window. It was really streaky and did not have the crystal clear finish I was accustomed to. I recommend you get a decent cloth to use with the fast glass as the product can't do miracles! I like the fact that I can use it on my paintwork and immediately use it if I discover a bird has defecated on the car. It quickly breaks up the mess making it really quick to wipe off. This is probably my favourite aspect of the cleaner and the reason I tend to use it the most. However, I do use it quite a bit inside to wipe over the dash because I like the smell of it. Overall, I am really satisfied with the product. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, so long as you have the right cloth to go with it! My only gripe is the price and think that it is quite expensive for what it is. You can buy a 5L carton for £22.00, so I might keep this spray bottle and try top it up when empty. That will work out at much better value for money.
Found in most reputable car accessory shops and even Tesco and Asda have stocked up on this in the past. Easy to spot on the shelves, a white plastic bottle with the familiar Auto Glym logo, a coloured square with Auto Glym written inside. For this product, the colour of the square is light blue. The Auto Glym fast glass cleaner comes in a handy 500ml sized bottle complete with spray mechanism. Twist the square nozzle at the end to ensure spray is on and pull the trigger. A few good squirts directly on the window and slowly wipe around the glass with a clean lint free cloth until glass is crystal clear. After use, simply twist the square nozzle again to close of the spray mechanism. Fast Glass advantages: Contains no abrasives therefore can be used on acrylic and plastic windows such as convertible rear windows. Does not contain silicones or waxes so can be used inside and out without fear of streaking or smearing when wiper blades are used. Does not leave any residue so windows are crystal clear. Other Uses: Auto Glym fast glass can also be used to remove dust from the interior, dashboards, door trims etc. Can be used on the actual external bodywork to remove insect splatter, tree sap and bird droppings. Tip: When the bottle is nearly empty and you struggle to squirt out the dregs of the bottle, remove the lid and pour the dregs into your new bottle :) Fast Glass costs approximately £5.99 and at the moment Halfords are doing a get three pay for two on all cleaning products. Overall, one of the better glass cleaners I have used, produces good clear streak free windows.
