Bluecol Sub Zero De-Icer
Advantages: Works well, essential in winter months
A bottle of De-icer in your car is pretty much an essential in the winter months. You know the scene, you come out to your car on a cold winters morning and there is thick ice on your windscreen. As usual I leave the house right at the last minute and never give myself enough time to clear my windscreens by turning the car on and letting the heaters melt the ice away. This is where a can of de-icer then comes in very handy.
De-icer is a liquid that comes in a handy spray can that you basically just spray onto your windscreen and as you watch it it basically melts away the ice and the ice just slips off the windscreen very quickly and then hopefully by that point your car has warmed up enough that the ice will not reform and you will have a clear windscreen for the rest of your journey. This de-icer works really quickly which is great as all I have to do is spray it on and the ice is gone. I then use a scraper to fasten the process along so the ice is removed even quicker and
It seems to work by making the windscreen quite slippery so that ice cannot stick to it anymore and it says on the can that it is made of a unique formula. The spray is really easy to use, there is a spray action at the top of this can that you just point at the windscreen by standing not too far away from it and then I spray eight across the top of the windscreen so it allows the formula to work all the way across and run down the windscreen. According to the bottle, Bluecol is the No.1 premium antifreeze brand in the UK and has cared for and protected engine cooling systems since 1937.
The de-icer has a bit of a chemical smell which you can smell for the first few minutes after you have been in the car but after that the smell pretty much disappears and you are left with a clean windscreen. This has never caused any problems or damages to my windscreen or paintwork so I find it very safe to use.
They sell this spray can in motor shops and garages, I pretty much see it everywhere priced at about £2 for a 400ml spray can. The spray will prevent freezing down to -36°C so its very effective. This will last for probably half a winter, depending on how many days of frost we get really but I do think its very good value and i recommend always keeping one in your car.
