CarPlan Blue Star De Icer
Advantages: Time saving, gets you going quicker.
Disadvantages: Strong fumes.
After being completely caught off guard one morning last week, and finding my car iced up and not having any de-icer in the house, I was pleased to find that good old Asda had stocked up ready for what some people are starting to say is gong to be a worse winter than the last one, though I have yet to find an accurate weather report!
The product I will now review is - "Carplan - blue star de-icer".
Now as someone who owns a slightly older car, that has trouble starting most mornings, let alone finding the strength to warm up the heaters enough to de-ice a windscreen, this stuff is of course a godsend.
To use you simply spray onto the frozen windows you wish to de-ice, I find it best to use a concertinaed effect, using less spray but with the spray running down the windows covering more area.
After leaving for a few mere seconds you could be fooled into thinking the windscreen or window is completely frost free, think again! Depending at what temperature the glass is at if you switch on the windscreen wipers, there is a good chance any moisture left on the window can refreeze instantly, I have had to pull the car over for a few minutes until my archaic heating system clears the glass of the remaining layer of ice!
Another problem I have had is having sprayed the glass, then whacking the heating system on full is the fumes that come back into the car, I wouldn't mind if I was on my own, opening the window to compensate, but nine times out of ten my children are with me, I tend to de-ice and heat the car before letting my children near it!
These of course are small problems in comparison to getting caught short car wise, very often I am running late for the school run or work, when after leaving the house I find that the car is iced up and it could potentially take me another 10 - 15 minutes before setting off, so this stuff is ideal for getting started, reducing down the waiting time to a few minutes.
It states that this spray is effective down to temperatures of -15c, though I can't comment on the temperature as the temperature gauge is another thing that doesn't work in my little putt-putt!
This de-ice is one of the better known brands, with this being what I would normally go for, though the price does have a lot to do with it too, being currently sold in Asda "2 for £2.00", one for me and one for the hubby!
This is a time saving spray that does just as it should, just be careful of the fumes!
