      Halfords antifreeze

Owning a car in England during the winter is usually a major hassle. You have to wake up early to scrap off the ice on your windshield and then you turn the heater on in the car and it use about warms up by the time you get to your destination by which time you've shivered all the way!

One of the other things you need to think about is the inside workings of your car and making sure that this is kept ticking over well. Antifreeze is pretty much an essential liquid that we need to add to our cars over winter and to be honest, during what we call "summer" here in England.

So, what exactly is antifreeze and what does it do? Well, according to an article I read, "Antifreeze is a liquid that is added to the water in an engine's cooling system in order to lower the freezing point. This means that the water will not freeze under normal cold weather conditions. If water were allowed to freeze within your car's engine, it would cause serious damage to the radiator and other components, which would be very costly to fix. As well as preventing water from freezing up, antifreeze raises the boiling point of engine coolant to prevent overheating, protects your engine from corrosion, aids heat transfer, and prevents scale from building up internally."

Halfords sell Antifreeze in a number of different sized containers and I recommend it is always advisable to buy the bigger size as this is a more cost effective way of buying the product as you will need to use quite a lot over the winter. We were recommended by Halfords staff to make sure this antifreeze was compatible with our car by reading the manual and yes it was. We buy the antifreeze in a 5 litre bottle and this comes with a screw top lid. It has a build in handle on the side so its quite easy to pour and doesn't really spill. It says on the bottle that this antifreeze is compatible with most cars built after 1998 and that it conforms to BS6580:1992, has a temperature range of +108C to -34C, is suitable for use all year round and has a 2 year life.

Its an easy product to use although I actually let my husband add it to the car as then if there are any problems with the car he can't blame me, ha ha! You just pour it into the water tank in the car and then replace the lid and store the bottle until you need to use it again. So far, so good. Last year we had no problems with our car over the winter and I can imagine this antifreeze probably had something to do with that so its definitely a product I recommend.
