“ Every car should have this gadget. It is great priced, strong and easy to use. The plastic scraper, the brush and the squeegee work well on removing snow, ice, bird muck, as well as moisture and any water on the car. „
I already had an ice scrapper that I was happy enough with that only cost me £1 at Halfords but I decided to buy myself this one as well as it was only £2 and as well as being an ice scraper it also comes with a squeegee and brush so it is a three in one product and my theory was that it would mean that I would need to use less things when dealing with the ice on my car.
I do have a garage but as with most things in my life it is cluttered and full to the rafters with boxes and various things that I have bought over the years and then found no use for so my car sits on the drive for most of the year. This has never really caused me any major problems but living in Britain as we do it does get covered in ice on cold mornings that I then need to remove before I can drive it.
This ice scraper is a pretty basic item but one that is invaluable in winter time. It may be basic but it does exactly what it says on the tin and I think it was well worth the £2 that I paid for it. They come in a variety of colours and are made of strong plastic.
The scraper is quite compact so you can store it in your car so that you can always have it to hand without it taking up too much room. It is lightweight but very sturdy and the handle is comfortable to grip and hold without it slipping through your palms. When it comes to using it to scrape ice you can get a good grip of the handle and really give it some welly which is handy when it is that really dense ice that is hard to scrape off. The surface area of the scraper isn't huge but it is large enough for a windscreen without it taking all day. It does take some elbow grease for the really packed on ice but it will get it off eventually.
The squeegee part is actually really handy to just go over the windscreen after scraping off all the ice to get rid of any last bits of ice and for removing the excess water before it has a chance to freeze again. You can also use it when you are washing your car to remove the excess water if you don't have a separate one.
The sponge part isn't really much use for the outside of the car but if like me you keep this in your glove box then you can get it out and use it to clean off the condensation on the inside of your wind screen. I do have a special cloth for that but more often than not my hand finds this first and so it gets used and it does a pretty good job of clearing it.
This might be a basic item but it is definitely one that gets used a lot by me. Also because of the materials used in its construction and the fact that it is just so sturdy it will last for absolutely ages and even if the sponge falls off it will still work to de-ice meaning that it should last as a de-icer for years and years before you have to replace it making it really good value for money.
It is that time of year again when cars become icy, and if you want to drive them safely you will need a means to remove the ice. Now you could use the method of my friend who recently passed her test, finding her car Nemo frozen one morning before work, she panicked and used the nearest thing to hand... A round plastic picnic plate :) Now unfortunately I can't comment on the success of using a round plastic plate, as when caught out I normally use a store loyalty card (the plastic kind not the cardboard ones that would just be silly), but she was late in to work that day so I did advise her to purchase a scraper and deicer. Now there are many scrapers that you can buy, and I own several different ones as being the disorganised type I usually can't find one when I need it. The one I'm reviewing today is my Halfords ice scraper, which I got last year surprisingly enough from Halfords. This is an ice scraper, squeegee and sponge which costs £2, I didn't pay that (don't worry I didn't steal it either) as I got if free last winter with a can of deicer as part of an o2 priority moment voucher. Now I say free but it actually cost me a £1 odd in internet charges as the deal I was on at the time wasn't that good, but I guess for the two things it was still a bargain.
To be honest when I first saw this I wasn't that impressed having only ever used a basic scraper, this looked like it would be awkward to use. It took me until this week to get around to using it. At 6 am on Tuesday I peered out of my front door at the car, said several things that aren't repeatable on a review and went to find the nearest scraper. This is the one which came to hand, so this is the one I used. The top blade of this is the scraper, at the bottom is the sponge and at the top sticking out is the squeegee. This is quite wide so can get rid of lots of ice at once and has a nice solid handle.
**Scraping my car**
Well actually it's my husbands car as my little smurf needs a new engine :(, but either way it needed scraping. To do this I switched on the engine, the car actually has a heated window but I don't like to leave the car engine running unattended so I helped things along by scraping off the ice. The ice was quite thin and came off easily. I then went round the car and removed the condensation from the side windows with the sponge before scraping off the ice on the other half of the windscreen.
I quite like this scraper, and found the sponge handy for clearing the side windows. This was easy to hold, and easy to use and the whole process was pretty quick, which is just as well as I had a cold and wasn't wearing gloves (they're in a draw somewhere). I am quietly impressed with this scraper, although it's still not my favourite scraper ( a small blue thing which I've temporarily misplaced), but I think this is a particularly good scraper for this time of year when cars are wet and icy.
One of the things that I hate most about winter is having to defrost my car every morning before I can drive away. I hate people who don't clear their windows properly, just leaving a wee gap to peer out of and make sure I clear both my back and front windows, mirrors and side windows. One of the tools I use is the Halfords ice clearer which costs just £2.
This is not your bog standard ice clearer as it has both a squeegee and brush as well as the scraper. It is available in a few colours, mine is blue.
The ice scraper is a simple plastic surface around 4 inches long. The corners do a fairly good job of cracking thick ice letting you get started in clearing. It works really well on all but the thickest ice in scraping, allowing you to clear the windscreen with little effort. The blade is at a nice angle so that you can
The squeegee bit is meant to be for getting rid of water and again this does a good job. It is also good for removing thinner snow. It is good for clearing the thin layer of ice that can sometimes appear inside the windscreen as the rubber is fairly hard and inflexible.
I find the snow brush a bit pointless. If the snow is soft then I use it but generally the hardened snow on the window needs the ice blade to remove it.
The blade is too small to get into the mirrors to clear them of any ice, which is frustrating as I end up using the corner to scrape the best I can and then using my hands to clear the rest. I must remember to buy a smaller scraper this winter just for that job.
Overall the Halfords ice scraper is cheap and cheerful and does the job it was designed to do with minimal fuss. Being all plastic means it is sturdy and will not rust or degrade with being wet. If only it had a smaller attachment to clear the windows and it would be perfect.
One of the worst things about winter is having to scrape the ice off my windscreen before setting off in the morning. Not only do I have to clear the outside of my windscreen, but also clear the condensation that forms on the inside of the car windows. All this means I have to allow extra time in the morning when every minute counts!
As driving with poor visibility is not only dangerous but also an offence,it is crucial to ensure you clear your car windows properly. It really is not a good idea to pour hot water over the windscreen as I once found out to my cost! Having a simple ice scrapper especially make for the job is the way to go as these little gadgets are easy to use and inexpensive.
The ice scraper I am using was purchased from Halfords and cost me just £2. The scraper comes in several colours including purple, red ,green and blue. I opted for the purple as it looks bright and cheerful. The scraper is made of tough plastic and has a scraper on one side with a rubber *blade* and a sponge on the other. The scraper is used to clear ice and snow from the windscreen ,whilst the blade is for wiping away excess water. The sponge is used to clear any condensation from the inside of the car windows.
I find this little gadget really easy to use . The scraper is excellent and can deal with even the thickest ice . I also find the sponge works well to clear any condensation on the inside without smearing the windows.I leave the scraper inside my car so its always available.
On the downside I really don't find the blade any use at all for clearing excess water. It is good at giving you a soaking though! Overall I think this is an excellent winter car accessory and one that I wouldn't want to be without.
Halfords Ice scraper
My husband and I keep our cars in the garage so really have little use for this item but my step son still lives with us and his car is parked outside. Having watched him struggle with a credit card to scrape the ice from his windscreen I went and purchased this last winter as a small gift for his stocking.
He was not exactly over the moon when he opened the gift but after we had a few snow fall and several icy mornings he was much more grateful. In fact it proved to be such a handy little gadget that I bought one each for my husband and I so when we park outside when visiting family or staying at hotels etc we have one as well.
This is a pretty basic gadget and costs a tiny £2 and we have all three had good use from ours. All of ours are the same burgundy colour so I make sure mine is hidden away safely in my car as step son is prone to losing things.
This is an ice scraper, one side has a brush so if it is light snow you can use that and finally there is a squeegee for washing windows if you want to do that or even clearing condensation or rain if your wipers decide not to do such a great job.
The thing I like about this is that it is strong plastic and can take some pretty strong scraping when needed but it is not heavy and the handle is quite comfortable to hold. It isn't too big and fits in the door of my car easily so is always there if needed. I have used it when I parked under some trees in autumn and my car windscreen was covered in wet leaves. This did a good and quick job getting it clear enough to drive off front and back.
I have air conditioning which I use winter and summer as I can set the temperature but if I have four bodies breathing sometimes it can get a bit fuggy inside the back so I have passed this back for the passenger to squeegee the windows for me. It is quite efficient and absorbs a lot of water before you have to dry it out.
The ice scraper is basically plastic and so doesn't scratch your car. It copes pretty well with average ice but when it is REALLY cold it does struggle a bit. If we put the car on and start the demister it helps when really bad. It is not so much the thickness of the snow and ice but how frozen it is that makes the difference. All in all though it does a pretty good job if you are prepared to work quite hard yourself.
We have all three found this a very handy little gadget.basic and simple but does the job. The other day my husband was cleaning the car and used the squeegee to dry the windows too.
For the price this does a great job so I would recommend having one in your car.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
I bought this Halfords Ice Scraper, Squeegee & Brush last winter just before the snow set in and it was worth its weight in gold. It only cost £2 which is very cheap as it is actually three different tools in one. It is a dark red in design but they also come in a range of other bright colours. It is made of plastic and feels light and comfortable to hold and the handle is quite chunky and tapers in at the end. This multi purpose tool is ideal to clear ice, snow, water and condensation from your vehicle.
There is a squeegee which is very absorbent and will soak up all the condensation from inside my car without getting too wet and it also seems to dry quickly. When I have used it for this I will just leave it on the floor of the car until I get to work and find that it is usually dry enough to pop back in the glove box. There is a brush on the other side which I use to remove any thick snow before using the scraper to remove the remainder and also to scrape away the ice. At the top there is a scraper which is the same plastic as the handle and will get through the thickest of ice although you do need to use a bit of elbow grease however it has never left any marks or scratches on my car.
I leave this in my glove box all year round as I also use it to clear leaves from my car, as where I park at work, in the autumn you sometimes can't see mycar when I go back to it at the end of the day for leaves, and I find it distracting if I don't clear the leaves as they flick up the windscreen towards me when I am driving.
I have also used it to remove presents which the birds have left as this can damage the paintwork if not removed. I think that this multi purpose handy little tool saves me money and space as I don't have to have different tools for the three different uses. It is cheap but well made and I give it five out of five stars.
Living in an area which has a tendency to become very cold in Winter, we have a vast array of windscreen de-icers, scrapers and brushes to keep us going through the Winter months. I purchased this 3 in 1 scraper from Halfords for £1.99 some time ago, their website shows it's currently on offer at 25p - bargainous!
My scraper is purple, the same as the dooyoo picture, but there were other colours available, I remember seeing silver, green and blue. The scraper has a hard plastic handle, there is a scraper on the top edge of, and a snow brush on the opposite edge. In the middle of the scraper is a squeegee. The idea is that you can use this one tool to remove ice, brush off snow and remove moisture without the need for other equipment.
The handle is nice and easy to hold and feels sturdy. The ice scraper works very well, I used it most mornings for many months when I had an early start at work and there was a layer of frost on my windscreen and windows. It is strong enough to loosen up most ice, although I was be wary of using any force on it as I have experienced hairline scratches from poor quality ice scrapers before.
The snow brush isn't the best part of this item, the rubber lip on it is very hard and I found that instead of removing the snow it tended to brush over it and it was easier to just use the scraper to remove it. It was better at removing snow from my headlights than my glass. The squeegee is very handy when cleaning the car to help remove excess water and moisture from the windscreen and windows, and ensure that they don't streak.
This item is a must to have in the car purely for the ice scraping which is does easily. I don't use the squeegee much and the snow brush isn't the greatest, however it's worth it's price and more with it's ice-scraping abilities! It's also small enough to keep in the car without taking up too much space, one under the passenger seat or in the boot will make sure you're well prepared for bad weather. If you manage to pick one up at 25p you've got yourself a great bargain too! 4/5 from me.
=Halfords Ice Scraper Squeegee and Brush=
I changed my car in that lovely winter weather, and although I had emptied the items from my old car, I hadn't the chance to put everything in. Out shopping I got caught in the snow and as I was on a local retail park, there was a Halfords there, so off I went.
I paid £1.99 for this from Halfords, I liked that it was a 3 way design so I brought one for Mr Thrifty as a spare for his car. It was available in store and from the website. I brought the red colour scraper for my car and green for his.
=3 in 1=
This is a 3 in 1 device.
1st- This is the plastic scraper, which I use to scrap the ice from the windows.
2nd - Brush - This is ideal to get the bulk of the snow off before you get to the bottom layer of ice,
3rd - Squeegee - This removes any moisture and any water in the car.
I find that I get a good use of all of the parts, it gets into the sides of the window, good for removing the snow, when you get a build up of snow on the roof, I always make sure it gets moved, as if I braked, that it my vision has gone, so it gets a quick shove down, and then moved off the windscreen with the scraper.
It is a basic scraper, but it does the job and it is defiantly a 5/5 product, it is an item that should be in everyone car, mine soon earnt its money back within the day, it was the best investment of the day.
I leave mine in the car, and I even used it to scrape off some bird muck, as it was a Saturday I brought a lucky dip, but no it was not lucky for me!
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend this item, great priced, strong, easy to use and works well.
As I've recently re-organised the boot of my car it seems like an appropriate time to review this ice scraper, squeegee and brush item. Up until 3 weeks ago I was using this item almost on a daily basis for several months and it really felt like the cold horrible mornings would never end.
If my car has a light dusting of frost in the mornings or a layer of snow then I have been using this squeegee, scraper and brush item to get my windscreen clean rather than using de-icer and still spending time scrubbing my windscreen clear.
I actually received this item for free from Halfords late last year but if you want to buy this it retails for £1.99 usually and is available in store or online.
My squeegee, scraper and brush is green and when I picked it up I just selected a random one from a big metal bin in store and I wasn't bothered about what colour I received as I was excited that it was free.
This is a single product that has a plastic scraper on it, which is ideal for removing ice, a brush that is ideal for removing snow and a squeegee that is ideal for removing water and moisture from a windscreen. I find that I have been using each side for its intended purpose and mainly I have been using the brush for removing snow from the top of my car in particular as well as removing it from the doors and the sides. I do not like the idea of snow falling down off the top of my car if I have to break suddenly so I have been very meticulous about removing all snow recently, much to the amusement of several friends. I have been using the hard plastic scraper for removing ice from the windscreen and this works fantastically well. When the ice is thin I can cut through it in one swift upwards motion meaning it takes just seconds to clean my windscreen and then move on to other windows. If there has been snow on my car then I find that I need to use the brush on the top and sides, then I scrape any ice off the windows and use the softer side to clear any water that has dripped down from the snow.
This does look pretty basic but it works very well at allowing me to clear my windscreen and car of snow and ice as well as clean the windscreen should I need to. I find all three parts of this are very simple to use and clear my windscreen or car as I require them to.
Overall I would say that this is worth 5/5 stars as it works fantastically well for me. Obviously I only need this during the frosty and snowy days and if I am travelling in the morning before things have had a chance to thaw out. I got my item for free, which probably makes me feel even more highly of it than I would but I still think that this is worth top marks. Whether I need to clean snow or ice from my windscreen I can do so with ease using this and if I have something on my windscreen such as bird mess I can pour a little water on my windscreen and then use this to clean it off if my windscreen wipers just aren't able to reach it or clear it off. There has been no damage caused to my car and while this is more time consuming that using de-icer I don't mind as sometimes the ice is fine or the snow is very heavy and using de-icer feels like a waste of time and money. The scrapers work very well and the bristles of the brush are at least an inch long making it a simple to use brush that works well and clears my car easily allowing me to start my journey knowing that I have done everything I can to stay safe on the roads.
I am on 02 and now and again with their priority moments app they give freebies! During winter time I was super happy as there was an offer to go Halfords and get a free Ice scraper and de-icer which came in really handy!
The scraper is made of plastic and looks like in the picture, with an easy to hold handle and a double sided horizontal head - one edge with a sponge and the other side with a slightly more sharper but still plastic tipped edge for scraping ice. It's very simple, and to purchase it costs only £1.99 so it's no expensive tool!
It's really easy to use and during the winter months it scraped the ice off my car effectively and with little elbow work for me to keep shoving my arm back and forth! Combined with using the spray de-icer it works brilliantly at removing ice and snow quickly and efficiently.
I also used this scraper for a cheeky other reason the other day! I was watching a show which gave a tip on washing bird poop off the car so being little miss DIY I got some warm water and car cleaner, and used the sponge - squeegee - to wipe the bird poop and it was really good at cleaning and then using the scrape edge to clean the surface! So its good for more than just scraping ice and snow!
As something I got for free I have absolutely nothing but praise for this scraper and would really recommend it. I got it in funky purple being all girly but I also have a yellow one I bought the year prior in a petrol station that is pretty much identical and does a job of the same standard. It fits easily in my glove compartment and is easy to wash and use time and time again so I have to give it 5 stars!
I was hoping I'd seen the last of my ice scraper for the winter, but sadly we have been having a light dusting of frost in the mornings despite it being March. I try to save my de-icer for when the ice is thick and heavy, and if it's only a thin dusting I'll just scrape it off instead. My weapon of choice, which works much better than the credit card my husband insists on using, is this scraper from Halfords.
The scraper is a three-in-one product, with a hard edge for scraping ice, a brush for removing snow, and a squeegee which is for removing condensation and absorbing excess moisture. It's a fairly basic looking device, and mine is in green. I'm not sure what other colours it comes in because on their website it just says "Colours may vary" so I guess they may change from store to store. It currently costs £1.99 which is a reasonable price for having something this handy in your car.
Although it's a three-in-one product, I've only ever used the scraper and brush. For some reason, I'm not so keen on the squeegee part because instead of absorbing moisture it just seems to move water round, particularly if you use it on the inside of your windscreen. This can obscure my view, so I prefer to use a tissue or my glove (!). However, the main reason I bought this was to use as a scraper, so it's no great hardship that the squeegee isn't effective.
The scraper part of this device works perfectly for my needs. It removes ice without scratching the windscreen, and although this takes a bit longer than spraying de-icer, it doesn't leave a mist on my windscreen so I can drive off straight away once it's been cleared. I've had this in my car for a couple of winters, and it remains as effective as it always has been, without becoming blunt at the edge.
The brush is also very handy for those days you have to clear snow from the car before dealing with any compacted ice underneath. It literally just drags it off the windscreen, and the brush is about an inch high, so it usually manages to cope with the snow without any issues. I guess if we had really heavy snow, it might be too much for the brush to cope with, but to be honest, if this was the case I'd probably be reluctant to leave the house anyway!
I would definitely recommend keeping one of these in the car. They fit in the glove compartment easily so you can keep them out of sight in the summer, and they're very handy to have for those frosty winter mornings. Alternating between using this scraper on the days the ice is lighter, and de-icer on the worst days, saves me money too as I'm not having to stock up my de-icer quite as often as I would if I used it daily. Four stars from me.
