I was bought a car care kit last year as a joke present because my partner and I are into our cars. The kit contained a mini 1L bottle of holts screen wash along with a sponge, dash wipes and squeegee. I put all the stuff away and did really think about it until recently when it started getting cold as this screen wash is ideal for winter as it does not freeze.
==Price and availability==
The cost of the bottle on its own for a 1L version is £1.99. It is diluted so you get much more when you mix it with water. You can buy it at Halfords, DIY stores and even supermarkets.
The screenwash is blue and it has a light lemon scent to it. The concentrate formula can be diluted with water and is protected to -15° c which is ideal for winter use. I mix 1 part to 3 parts water but as it is getting colder I will start using it more concentrated to ensure it does not freeze. The bottle has protective screen cap and can be poured directly into the wash in the car or into a watering can and then add the water, it is up to you. The leak free bottle can be stored in the car for use next time or you can leave it inside the garage.
This is really good screen wash as it squirts on and with a couple of wipes of the wiper blades the screen is left smear free and shiny. It clears all sorts of rubbish off the window including tar, insects and traffic dirt. You do not need much to clean the windows which is good but every time you squirt it, you get a lovely whiff of the lemony liquid. I find that screen wash is more important in the winter as the grit on the roads and ice causes terrible marks on the windscreen and as the sun is so low, often a smear can really distort your view. I find that I have to use this everyday to keep it looking clear but one attempt is always enough, it really is a reliable product.
A few weeks ago when the weather was really bad, I had this product in and I tried to use it at minus 4. Unfortunately it had froze so once the day had thawed, I added slightly more of the concentrate to the wash bottle in the car. The extra concentrate has stopped the liquid freezing and on the following morning the liquid was free flowing and sprayed the window. The next downside though was that the spray on the actual window then began to freeze! This taught me that the product is not to be used as a de-icer and that it is simply a screen wash. The anti-freeze element in the liquid is to keep it from freezing inside the car so you can use it whilst out and about. You can not use this to defrost your windows.
This was the first time I had encountered this product and it was a gift but as it is nearly its end I will be certainly buying it again. They do a great value 5 L bottle for £4.99 which I will be buying as I find it great for clearing windows. It is smear free and without streaks.
Overall, a great find!
