My car has 18" alloy wheels which are diamond cut, these look lovely when they are clean but as i do a lot of mileage, they soon get covered in brake dust and obviously dirt from the roads.
I am sure we have all tried to wash our alloys with normal car shampoo or even washing up liquid, but not had the results we wanted. I was searching for a cleaner which i could spray on whilst washing the car to help remove some of this dirt, i came acorss this Mer alloy & steel wheel cleaner, it was priced at £6.99 for a 500ml bottle so seeemed reasonably priced. I had heard of Mer before for being good at what they do, so i decided to give this stuff a try.
This comes in a spray bottle and to use it couldn't be simpler. All you have to do is spray this onto the wheels and leave for 1-2minutes, then rinse. My wheels were filthy and after around 30seconds you could see it eating into the dirt and shiney silver alloys started to appear. After the two minutes was up i got the jet wash on them and rinsed them off.
I found the end result was fantastic, my wheels were looking like the day i bought the car and I hadn't even got on my hands and knees and scrubbed them! Being picky there were still a few spots of tar still stuck to the wheels but for the first time using it i was impressed.
If you are looking for a product to clean your wheels then look no further than this, you will probably find it is higher priced than most of the others on the shelf, but I do think it is worth it. I have now invested in a small wheel brush so if I'm ever doing a proper job, I give them a scrub and they come up perfect every time.
I have even sprayed this on my wheels whilst waiting in line for a automatic car wash, by the time i get to the car wash entrance it is ready to be rinsed off, 100% better than the results you would get just from the car wash soap alone.
A word of warning, if you have a lot of corrosion on your wheels or the laquer is starting to peel, then be careful spraying this stuff, it seems to smell pretty acidic so could make corroded wheels look worse.
Overall this was well worth the money and I will always buy it again, my wheels are now always shiney!
