Tesco Trigger De-Icer
Advantages: works well, easy to use
A couple of months ago when doing my weekly shop at Tesco I noticed all manner of things for cold weather were strategically placed at the entrance to the store - before you even get properly inside. Taking this as a sign that a cold snap could be on the way I had a browse through to determine what I required. I resisted the snow ploughs but opted for a couple of bottles of this de-icer. The previous winter I had been caught out by a cold snap and my de-icer had been frozen in the car as I couldn't even open the doors. Determined to not suffer the same fate again, I bought the two bottles at £2.50 each. The bottle contains 500ml.
The bottle itself is a trigger bottle and made of a clear plastic. I much prefer these to the aerosol type cans which are made of metal and, frankly, far too cold to hold to spray when the conditions are icy. You can see the liquid in the bottle and it is a light blue colour. To spray, you twist the cap of the nozzle to the 'on' position and pump the trigger - directing the nozzle towards the windscreen. The first use requires a couple of pumps on the trigger to draw the liquid up the clear tube to the nozzle before any can be sprayed out. You need to start at the top of the windscreen and work your way down with the spray (ensuring any snow is removed first, if applicable).
The spray is simple to use and quite easy to direct too - it does cover quite a large area with a thin spray rather than concentrate it more in one area. I find that it does melt the ice quite quickly but I do use in conjunction with a car ice scraper to speed the process up. The use of de-icer means that I use the scraper to simple wipe away loose ice or water rather than having to apply any level of force. Depending on the level of ice, I can usually clear my windows in 2-3 minutes with the use of de-icer, which is pretty good going, especially on those days when you are already running late.
This is a decent de-icer that has worked effectively for me and I have no complaints. It is not a miracle worker and you do need to give it a helping hand sometimes but it is pretty effective so I would definitely recommend it.
