Tesco Trigger De-Icer
Advantages: Effective at dealing with light frosts, transparent packaging
Disadvantages: Useless on heavier frosts
I only started driving at the end of 2011 and managed to avoid having to defrost the car that winter as I never had to go out early in the morning and by time I did have to go out the frost would have disappeared. This winter, however, was a different story as my daughter now goes to nursery. Thankfully, it hasn't been too bad so I haven't had to defrost the car as much as I imagined but still needed something to give me a helping hand in the morning.
When doing my shopping in Tesco I spotted their own brand de-icer on offer, buy one get one free, thinking this was quite a good deal I bought two 500ml bottles for £2.50. Of course, being a Tesco product it is only available to buy at Tesco either in store or online depending on what way you do your shopping.
The packaging isn't very special, it's simply a transparent plastic bottle with a trigger style nozzle at the top, the shape reminds me of cleaning product bottles! I like the fact that it's see-through as it's easy to see how much you have used and when you might need to replace it again, they'd be nothing worse than waking up one morning and realising you only had a tiny bit of de-icer left!
The trigger is easy to pull and the de-icer comes out in an even spray. I tend to start at the top of the windows and work my way down, the de-icer does do a good job on lightly frosted windows and I find after a minute the frost has disappeared and only needs a little scrape to make sure all the remnants have gone. Unfortunately, we haven't had much in the way of snow or what I would describe as proper wintery weather so defrosting the car hasn't been a huge chore. There was only one morning I had a bit of difficulty using the de-icer, it was heavy frost and a slight dusting of snow and every time I sprayed the de-icer it just tended to stick to the frost that was already there instead of getting rid of it.
If you only need something to get rid of light frost then this is a good de-icer as it does work out cheap when you buy it on promotion. However, if you are prone to heavy frosts in the morning I would buy something else as this just doesn't help defrost bad frosts.
Summary: An ok de-icer
