My boyfriend is very into cars and takes good care of his. I'm a little easier to please and do not care what I drive as long as it gets me from A to B! My boyfriend bought the SynPower oil as it is designed for high performance cars and designed to look after the engine to protect it against engine stresses such as wear and tear, deposits and heat.
==Price and availability==
For a 5LT bottle of this synthetic oil it costs £37.00 and it can be bought in garages and vehicle repair stores. My partner bought it from a local car repair shop. There are a few different versions of the oil and these could vary in price.
This synthetic oil is compatible with all conventional and synthetic oils. It comes in a plastic bottle with a screw off cap. The five Litres did my boyfriend's car and my own smaller one. Although the oil is designed for high powered vehicles, my boyfriend will only use top quality oil in cars so it was not a problem for him to use it in the engine of my mini. There are many advantages to using this type of oil, one of the big sellers being that it helps fuel efficiency for the life time of the oil. It also helps to keep the engine clean and because it contains low volatility anti-wear additives that remain in the oil longer, this protects the catalytic system from friction and wear and tear. It helps to reduce engine wear at high temperatures and in cold temperatures it protects through having faster oil flow at the start up.
I must say that car maintenance is really not my thing, this is one of the reason we have men in our lives! When he changed my oil to whatever was in it before to the Synthpower oil, I did not notice a difference at all. I would imagine that in his car, the extra money spent on this oil is probably worth it but it is wasted on me because neither I, nor my car appreciate it. The oil comes with a full set of instructions on the back and tells you what sort of vehicles the oil is best suited to, such as turbocharged and high performance vehicles. My boyfriend swears by this oil, he has a BMW that I detest as it gets far more attention than I do. He changes his oil every six months but I tend not to have anything done with mine until it is ready for servicing. He would not use anything less than this oil and as long as he is buying it and maintaining my car, he will be using this. I have not had any complainants regarding my car's performance so I guess it must be doing something right!
Valvoline is one of the lesser known oil companies in the UK. However they produce a great selection of oils.
I use their Synpower MST synthetic oil in my BMW, as it meets BMW Longlife 2004 approval.
A useful bonus is that even though it is 100% synthetic, which is necessary to protect the turbo, its actually very reasonably priced. Only around 25 pounds for 4 litres, quite a bit less than the rival brands, Castrol and Mobil etc.
You cant afford to skimp on oil in modern cars with turbo engines, as poor oil can wear the turbo, which is expensive to replace. Also many cars have long 2 year service intervals, so oil needs to be of a good quality to last that long.
I change my oil every 6 months, as I think 2 years is too long.
Valvoline also make greases, transmission oils and brake and cooling fluids.
