Halfords Roof Mount Cycle Carrier:
... makes me slightly shorter and a little weaker than most men) but I am, like many other women, a cyclist, and feel that it shouldn't be impossible to come up with a design that suits us too. I am not even a very weak female so if I couldn't do it, neither can many others. Upside down works fine, even for me, so why can't I find any replacement racks that mount the bike upside down like my previous one? I also fo... Read the full review: Not for girls! by Sandra Hey |

Halfords Deluxe Roof Mount Cycle Carrier ... front wheel straight as this makes putting the bikes on much less prone to problems. I have never tried fitting more than 2 but can understand why in would be difficult if not impossible! The pivot point in the middle, whilst making them easier to store, is a bit of weakpoint in the design. Both carriers have cracks in the plastic, although neither has broken (not yet anyway!). Also be careful not to overtighten the wheel straps as the metal bits at the ends are not that strong. They are lockable, both to the roof bars and to the bikes, however I wouldn't like to rely on the locks stopping a determined thief, although they are likely to be more secure than on a bo... Halfords 2 Cycle Carrier ... swing up with the bootlid. Nice. With my full-size mountain bike in place and the carrier tightened down onto my bootlid everything remains completely stable and pretty much rigid. I have to remove the pedal nearest the car since the carrier holds the bike close to the car's bodywork, but this is a small price to pay to achieve such good rigidity. Holding the bike close to the car also reduces the stress on the attachment points. The carrier is supplied with two pairs of rubber mouldings designed to support and protect each bike's frame, but I've found these mouldings to be too squashy - they don't hold the bike in the precise place that they should... Halfords Tow Bar Cycle Carrier ... they went on dead easy. I suppose the hard part is fitting the car mounted plate to the towbar, once that is done the rest is relatively easy. Make sure that your stabiliser will still fit with it in position, and also ensure that the bikes are mounted as high as possible to avoid conflict with the Caravan. My cvan is a Swift 21 ft and it's fine with the bikes on. The rack when fitted can be lowered with the bikes on to allow the boot of the car (estate) to be opened. This is great for me because I have a big thirsty dog who goes everywhere with us, except on the bikes of course. If you are thinking of buying one of these for your new caravan towbar, fit a s...
