Advantages: High security, Reputation, Cost is worth it
Disadvantages: Cumbersome, Tricky lock, Heavy
There are many different types of car security products on the market. Most new cars come with alarms and immobilisers, at the very least usually an immobiliser. Some steering locks are styled like a bar that fits through and across the steering wheel. Most car thiefs will come prepared, these types can be easily removed by cutting out a section of the steering wheel with a hacksaw. At the end of the day people will always say if they want your car they'll take it. What we've got to do is make it hard form them. This little baby is the best steering lock on the market in my humble opinion. It completely covers the steering wheel so that it is impossible to cut out a section to remove it like others. It is virtually unremovable without the key as the lock is resistant to drilling. It claims to be able to with stand a professional assault for around 15 mins, which most thieves wouldn't waste there time for. The best thing about this lock is it is highly visble and that in itself will put off most thieves. I drive a little hot hatch and while I make sure that nothing is available to steal from the car such as the radio or valuables, I am always confident my car will be where I left it, with this device. Touch wood, my car has never been broken into in the 3 years I've had this device. They come in two colours, silver and yellow though I prefer the highly visible yellow version. They cost what seems quite a lot at first but they are worth every penny, it's only a one off, as you can keep it for every car you own if you look acter it. (They do come in different sizes for different wheels though so check the box for your size) My only problems with them are they are very big and are hard to store anywhere handy. The best place for it is really in the boot when not in use but that gets a bit awkward so I usually put mine under the passenger seat, it just about fits. They are quite heavy espcially if
you are an elderly person. My mam struggles sometimes to lift hers from the floor of the car before putting it on. Sadly the weight is a direct result of the level of security this product provides. Another problem is sometimes it's tricky to get the key to open the lock when removing the disk. Sometimes I've spent about 30-40secs trying to get the key to fit. It probably looks like I'm the thief! Having said that, if it can be hard with the key, it must be nigh on impossible to pick the lock. I know 5 other people who own this product and the all think they are the best type of steering lock. Mine came with 3 keys which is enough for most people. Excellent, confidence inspiring product.

- 26/06/02 It's made of really solid metal and weighs quite a lot. Sure the other plastic coating gets scuffed a bit but I can't see how it won't last. I've had it 3 years and had no bother with it. £80 over three years works out as 8p per day so I'd say it's worth it, it's gots loads of life in it yet. |
