Advantages: Excellent grip in the wet
Disadvantages: Price and road noise
I have a 2005 Corsa 1.8 SRi equipped with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres all around. The tyres are part of the premium range of Goodyear, so they are not cheap, my car costing around £70 fitted per corner, these are 16" wheels and a low profile tire however.
The grip on them is very good, making it much harder to spin the wheels when pulling away - and I have never had any problems with losing the tail of the car when cornering at higher speeds.
One of the best features of the tyre is the V Tread pattern which makes is superior to the majority of other tyres on the market when driving in the wet. This was the main selling point to me, as when I used to own cheaper tyres, I was not a fan of driving in the wet at all - it is enough to be trying to see properly in the pouring rain without having to worry about your tyres loosing grip if you have to suddenly brake, or if you go around a corner quicker than you anticipated.
The V Tread pattern also looks good, better than the asymmetric or budget tyres the majority of cars are equipped with in my opinion.
The downside of these tyres would be the higher price, and they can be noisier than others on the market, this does not particularly bother me, however it may annoy others who like a quiet drive.
In summary, I would highly recommend these tyres, as I drive a reasonably powerful car, which does not have traction control, these are excellent, and feels a lot more safe to drive knowing that I have the grip to do an efficient emergency stop in most driving conditions (except possibly ice). I think these are worth the extra money, after all, you cannot put a price on your own safety.
Summary: Highly reccomended
