Advantages: Cheap(er) than most
Disadvantages: Poor wet grip
I needed a new front set of tyres for my Avensis 2.0 VVTi (195x15x60) and read 3 reviews on them, all good. I was tempted to go for the Goodyears the were originally fitted as these were priced at around £125 fitted as opposed to the £100 fitted for the two Toyo's. What swayed my judgement was the opinions here, not the saving.
Well, it was a big mistake! The Toyo's fitted to my car are borderline dangerous in my view. Okay, they do the job in the dry but setting off fast in 1st on a wet road is guarenteed to bring wheelspin and accelerating sharply in 2nd has the same effect. My Goodyear's were never this bad, even when on the limit of their tread depth.
I'm stuck with them now until the tread is down to near minimum but I'll never buy Toyo again, it's like skating on an ice-rink when the road is wet! As far as road noise goes they are no better nor worse than the Goodyear's they replaced.
On balance, I wish I had paid the extra £25 and had Goodyear's fitted - I certainly won't be going back to Toyo! Maybe their high-performance tyres are better, I dunno.

- 24/08/06 Were these the T1-Rs or the T1-S? Or another tyre?
The T1-Rs are superb in the wet, probably one of the best tyres available. The T1-S are awful, very soft and spongy, going straight on around the bends! |

- 12/03/05 I haven't heard of Toyo's although they sound like one of these oriental makes I try to avoid. The Michelins on my Ka are less than £50 each and 3 of them have been on for several years.
