Advantages: Excellent handling, V shaped tread means less aqua planing, good quality

Disadvantages: Price!

I recently got some new wheels. Some very expensive wheels as it goes. Probably spent far too much money on them, but they are lovely. I've always lived by the philosophy that if you are going to do something, you should always do it right. In this case there is no point in putting cheap rubbish tyres on a good set of wheels. It ruins the look but the handling too. I read a review of the Toyo's on a tyre website (www.blackcircles.com) that gave rave reviews, I had also heard good things from friends and fellow petrol heads. So I thought I would give them a try. I was already running Pirelli P Zero tyres on my old wheels and I didn't truly think you could get much better. After all, Pirelli are well known and a very good brand. I was wrong. The Toyo's are far superior. You might notice from the pictures on this sight that the tyre tread pattern is quite unusual. A V-shaped tread instead of the usual lines. The idea of this is that on wet surfaces, the water is pushed outwards by the tread, thus giving you reduced chance of aqua-plaining, more contact with the road and better grip. I was intrigued by this idea and happily happened to be in Scotland this weekend for a long trip away. Typically, it was raining cats and dogs and there were a few areas of flooded road. Normally I would have felt the water under the tyres (as you normally do), but not now. I should say at this point that I avoid driving through puddles. It's not sensible. You'll only rust your car more quickly, get pedestrians wet and risk flooding the engine, but sometimes it's unavoidable. This was one of those times. Despite the surface water and large deep puddles, the tyres kept a very good grip on the road. Only once did I feel the wheels tug and even then it was barely noticeable. The tyres were quiet and well behaved.

Being a bit of a car freak, my wheels are 18 inches and 8 inches wide. So I needed tyres to match. Wanting a sexier look I opted for low profile stretched tyres. So 215/35/18. A very low profile tyre on a large wheel. Plus my car is lowered 35mm, so bumps were quite rough before, but the Toyo's take them with much more ease. Despite being lower, they make a smooth and comfortable ride while still looking cool. I can't imagine how wonderful the standard size would be, but I can highly recommend the tyre to anyone. They aren't cheap though, mine set me back £132 each. But this is the sort of brand built to last. They're worth it, trust me.

Summary: Very good tyre indeed. Comfortable and smart
