A lot of my friends and their husbands have been turning 30 this year, and as we travel to Las Vegas for my 30th in 3 weeks (excited!), we figured we best start getting some practice in with roulette and poker. We all decided to chip in (excuse the pun, it really wasn't intended!), and invest in a poker set so the boys could all play poker when we get together, which seems a lot recently with all the birthdays we've had. I'm fine with playing Roulette which is what I figure I will dabble in in Las Vegas but my husband had gone a little rusty with poker so we wanted a set that could get him back in the game.
After not much research online, I found the Cartamundi Compact Poker Set which seemed the best value that I could find, and for around £20 I found it for sale in Tesco of all places. It was also available in various online retailers such as Amazon but it seemed to be the cheapest at Tesco so opted to buy it from there.
When it arrived I was fairly pleased with it, the cards seemed high quality (they are professional standard so not made cheaply). The chips are weighted and there are plenty of them (150 to be exact). We did have to buy another set of chips but this is only because there are nearly ten players when they all get together, so do bear this in mind if you plan on playing with a large group of friends, I would suggest buying an extra set of chips just to be on the safe side.
The travel size bag that they come in is for me its main selling point. Easy to transport, its ideal to take on weekends away for a little light-hearted entertainment once the children have gone to bed. Although the fact that it can be transported and carried securely is a major bonus, it hasn't been thought of beyond this as once the chips have been removed from their seal, there is no secure compartment to seal them away in, so when you open up the travel pack, you will find the chips are all over the place. Also, because the chips are weighted, the 'compact' set may be just that, but it is on the heavy side. I would avoid taking this abroad as the weight would take up valuable clothes allowance ; )
Also included in the pack, is some easy to follow rules for Texas Hold 'em. This has stopped a few minor disagreements with the boys, I have to admit! There (I am told!), many variations of poker and the boys all had different rules that they followed, often which only came to light in game play so although they were only messing around, did start to get a little heated! The rules swiftly made their way out of the pack and any drama was averted!
A quality product that will provide hours of fun.
