Poker is a classic card game that involves a player attempting to beat others by obtaining a wining hand of cards. There are many variations of Poker (such as Five Card Draw or Texas-Hold'em,) each different in their own unique way, but normally the objective is to win a pot of money that has been built up during the hand (round) through a series of bets.

This boxed set contains 500 Poker chips of various values (colours), two packets of three Joker playing cards, 5 playing dice, and a white 'dealer' chip. All presented beautifully in an padded aluminium carry case. To simply call this item a toy or a novelty would be an insult, as it is a fitting tribute to the famous game.

I've enjoyed playing poker for a number of years. In fact back in my school days several of us often played the game while we were in Geography - granted we were only playing with coloured pencils (as our teacher would never permit us to use anything else.) But nevertheless I developed a love for the game. Poker can be played so easily through electronic means, either with a hand held game, or with the vast number of websites that offer online virtual poker. While this may be sufficient for some, I personally prefer to be able to sit down with some friends, with the chips in front of me, and real cards in my hands. It makes the game seem more real, and more serious. But it also adds an additional element of fun to the game. I can't bluff when I'm playing poker online, but I can when playing in person.

The quality of the product is reflected in its high price. The chips in the set are of extremely high quality, very realistic in weight (compared to the real casino chips.) as well as being durable. The two packets of playing cards are also worth a mention, as they would put a pound shop packet of cards to shame. These are not items that will need replaced anytime soon. For me however the Royal Flush was the sheer quality of the aluminium case. It's lockable, strong, built to a high standard, is able to keeps it's contents safe, and it looks professional.

It should be noted that there are both cheaper smaller kits, and larger more expensive kits on the market, so there's bound to be one to suit your budget. This particular 500 chip set tends to retail around the forty pound mark, but in my opinion it's well worth the cost. However you're not limited to playing only poker, as you could easily use the cards and chips for Blackjack or another related game.

Naturally if you're not a poker or card game fan, then you would most likely have little use or interest in this item. But this would make a perfect gift for the poker fan, or enthusiast. It doesn't matter if you're playing for fun with the chips, playing for real money, or just colouring pencils, as this really is a brilliant package.
